Here are some notes on the first half of the Boston Celtics' first preseason game against the Toronto Raptors Monday evening:   Vitor Faverani looks very effective on defense and also on the fast-break (who would've thought he can run the floor!?). El Hombre Indestructible slid his feet well on D, contested most drives in his direction and spaced himself perfectly when the C's had numbers (he logged two points, two steals, two rebounds and one block in his first five minutes).   Kelly Olynyk can pass the ball! The rookie phenom made a couple sweet dimes, including a crisp dish to Faverani in traffic on a 3-2 fast break. Also hit Jared Sullinger on a perfect entry pass under the basket, and hit Courtney Lee on the numbers for a threeball during a swing-around on the perimeter. It's not often a seven-footer leads a team in assists (four) for a half... wait, is that a good sign or a bad sign!?   Avery Bradley continues to ramp up his offensive self-assurance. He has mad...

Wallace can help lead the team through this dark time

Even though the Celtics have only played a single preseason game, one thing is clear: Gerald Wallace is here to play. Wallace scored a team-high 16 points for Boston in their loss to the Raptors Monday night and looked more like the guy that earned the nickname "Crash" than the guy who faded into obscurity with the Brooklyn Nets last season. He ran hard, gave his all and...

Sullinger surprised at his productive return

We have been hearing since media day about Jared Sullinger and the progress he needs to make with his weight before the start of the regular season. Sullinger did indeed look heavy last night, but he also played a great first game back. Since recovering from back surgery, Sullinger has been battling to get back into basketball shape. He has admitted to the media that he would like...

Celtkicks: Rajon Rondo officially announces Anta deal

We can finally stop using the word “rumor” when it comes to the Rondo/Anta reports. Tonight, he made it official. No word yet on when the shoe drops in China and pricing. I’m not sure when this presser took place, but here are the photos of Rajon with Anta staff and the Anta “Rajon Rondo I”: Click to view slideshow.

Practice Notes: Crawford and Brooks leave; Bradley banged up

As previously reported, Jordan Crawford will not be traveling with the Celtics on Wednesday to play the New York Knicks in Providence. Boston will potentially be down another guard as MarShon Brooks was excused from practice. Brooks developed a headache during practice that was bad enough for head trainer Ed Lacerte to recommend he take the rest of the day off. After practice...

Jordan Crawford will not be traveling with the Celtics for game 2 of the preseason

#Celtics rookie Phil Pressey getting in some extra shots after practice today in advance of expected extended effort tomorrow vs. NYK.— Scott Souza (@scott_souza) October 8, 2013 Jordan Crawford won't play tomorrow. Death in the family.— Jay King (@ByJayKing) October 8, 2013 Some things are bigger than basketball. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jordan Crawford.

A banner moment for Stevens

Before he coached his first game at TD Garden new Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens was playfully asked if he noticed the 17 championship banners hanging inside his new gym. Stevens said they "couldn’t be further from my mind right now" while noting that he wasn't hired for what had happened in the past but to try to get the team back to that level. And let'...

Are Rajon Rondo's days in Boston over once he is healthy?

As far as predictions go, this is a lot less bold than saying Michael Jordan will come back for one game. Still, this one is notable for including absolutely no hedging. Most of the talk involving Rajon Rondo and the Celtics this season centers around the team’s supposed need to trade the 27-year-old point guard if it is truly dedicated to rebuilding. Once Rondo returns from his...

An Interview with Former Celtic Skip Young

As training camp is upon Celtics' nation, we figured it'd be a great time to get in on the inside.  To know what the rigors of training camp consisted of.  What better than to ask a former Celtic who experienced training camp himself? Skip Young was picked in the 7th round by the Celtics in the 1971 NBA draft.  Yet he more than made heads turn at training camp that year...

CelticsLife awards - Who will win the Paul Pierce award for team MVP?

With the pre-season officially upon us, we here at CelticsLife thought it would be fun to dish out some pre-season award predictions for the Celtics. We came up with eight awards (four positive, four not-so-positive), and will be giving out writer predictions on each of them over the next week or so. These awards will be named after Celtics greats (and not-so-greats), and hopefully...

Celtics-Raptors Postgame Videos of Avery Bradley and Jared Sullinger

AB was aggressive at the defensive end with 3 steals, and despite his 5-16 shooting, he was aggressive on the offensive side of the ball as well. Sullinger scored 14 points off the bench in 20 minutes of work. He also had 6 rebounds. You can follow Shawn on Twitter- @Celticstitletow Videos courtesy by Gethin Coolbaugh

The Outlook For The Celtics’ Future

We’ve all had the summer to digest the Celtics’ draft night blockbuster deal with the Nets – you know, the one that sent KG and Paul Pierce packing (along with Jason Terry) and brought in a package of players nobody really wants (Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans and Kris Joseph) and a slew of draft picks. So now that we’ve had a few months to think...
