The Bulls are exploring trading long-time swing man, Luol Deng (Reuters)
Luol Deng is no stranger to hearing his name being dragged around the NBA rumor mill. But this trade could be the first of many that sets off the NBA offseason as teams try to prepare themselves for a run for the 2013/2014 NBA season. For Chicago Bulls fans, this trade would certainly hurt their chances to overtake the Miami Heat for Eastern Conference supremacy. However, Luol Deng has an expiring 14 million dollar contract next year and the Bulls may not want to risk losing him for nothing. Also the emergence of Jimmy Butler has made Deng somewhat expendable.
Another wrench in a potential trade for the Bulls would be the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have expressed interested in Deng as well. Lets have fun and say the Bulls did acquire the third overall pick and used it on Georgetown’s Otto Porter. The Bulls would have a young defensive minded core of Jimmy Butler and Otto Porter that could certainly lock down most opposing team’s swing players. That would be a fun, young, tough team for years in the East.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Chicago Bulls, in their latest attempt to gauge the trade value of All-Star swingman Luol Deng, have had exploratory discussions with Washington about a deal that would land Deng with the Wizards and bring the No. 3 pick in Thursday’s draft to the Bulls.
The most likely trade construction, if talks were to progress to the serious stage, would send Deng to the Wizards for the No. 3 pick and center Emeka Okafor, who would have to formally opt into his contract for next season ($14.5 million) this week for the trade to go through.
Later on the Wizards insider, Michael Lee wrote a piece saying the Wizards brass refuted this report.

When informed of the report, one source said there was “no truth” to the rumored trade proposal for Deng. forward Luol Deng, according to two league sources with knowledge of the team’s thinking.

Despite all the Derrick Rose drama of “will he or won’t he play this year,” the Chicago Bulls did rather well for themselves relying on a collective effort to fill the void left by Rose.
