Metta World Peace has been amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers. Ever since that took place other NBA teams have been salivating at the chance to pick up the veteran. Yet it looks as though Metta doesn’t want to play in the NBA. He wants to play in China or arena football. Sounds about right coming from the mouth of the guy who was formally known as Ron Artest. World Peace told ESPN LA that he could see himself playing basketball in China, or take his talents to the arena league. “I don’t really want to play for anybody,” World Peace said on Friday. “I don’t want to go anywhere. I want to go to China, or coach or play arena football.” Metta has had conversations with Yao Ming about the possibility of playing with him overseas for the Shanghai Sharks. Ming and Peace used to play together in Houston. It looks like he is in talks with representatives from a couple other teams in China as well. So why did this notion pop up in Metta’s mind? He recently traveled to Beijing which gave him the idea of playing in China should he be amnestied. “You don’t live twice,” World Peace said. “You’re not 33 twice. You won’t be able to play in China at a good level again. I wouldn’t be able to play in China again averaging, maybe, 40 or more points. That would be fun.” There is the possibility of World Peace retiring and then become a player development coach. Still if he does not report to a team that claims him off of waivers he would not the $7.7 million he is owed. That is a pretty huge chunk of change even for an NBA player so World Peace could be saying “crazy” stuff just to play up to his persona. Sources say that the Los Angeles Clippers are front runners in his list of possible destinations as well as his hometown New York Knicks if he decides to play in the NBA. Both the Knicks and the Clippers are working on adding World Peace to their roster. Each team’s biggest issue is being able to pay him a veteran’s minimum contract of $1.4 million annually. So where is World Peace going? Playing in China? Playing another sport like arena football? Or maybe he will become a coach. It seems that World Peace will probably stay in Los Angeles and play for the Clippers. He doesn’t have to move. He knows the area and the Clippers with adding Doc Rivers as the head coach will look attractive to Metta. Plus playing with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin is a huge plus. World Peace just wants his moment in the spotlight. This is just his way of bringing the NBA offseason chatter his way.
