Carmelo Anthony is trying to get Rajon Rondo to come to the Knicks The dreadful New York Knicks are looking for anything to turn around their horrible start to the NBA season. The team is in disarray while trying to hold down the fort until Tyson Chandler returns from injury. But even with a Chandler return, a successful season and deep postseason run seem like a pipe dream at this point. A trade to bring in a top-level talent seems nearly impossible and the Knicks don’t hold a draft choice this year so bottoming out is certainly not an option. But the Atlantic Division is still in play and the Knicks may need to win their division to hold on to their most important possession in Carmelo Anthony. Why is this important? Because according to Stephen A. Smith, Carmelo isn’t going to stick around for the mess that is the New York Knicks when he could just as easily bolt this summer for greener pastures. But now a report has surfaced that would prove otherwise as Melo is recruiting Rajon Rondo for 2015 when he could join the Knicks via free agency. Via USA Today: Jason Jordan: Are you confident that he’ll be just as good, if not better, coming off of the ACL tear? Steve Smith : No, I think he should be fine. He took a long time off and he’s rehabbed the right way. Whether he stays in Boston or not who knows. I know, talking to Melo (Carmelo Anthony), he’s recruiting Rajon to come to New York. Melo thinks he’ll come too. You never know about that stuff though. I think either way, Rajon will be fine. This would indicate that Anthony is planning to stay with the Knicks even though he’s stated that he will opt out of his contract this summer. The Knicks can offer Melo more money than any other team and the Los Angeles Lakers who just resigned Kobe to a massive extension may not have the cap flexibility to go after more players to help Anthony if he chooses to sign with the Lake Show. Also don’t forget that Mike D’Antoni is the coach of the Lakers and there was said to be friction between the two of them. For the Knicks this is a good sign that Melo is trying to recruit players to the Big Apple because the team will have a boatload of salary coming off the books in 2015 when Tyson Chandler, Andrea Bargnani and Amar’e Stoudemire contracts expire. Plus the team has its 2015 NBA first round draft selection to go along with potential building blocks Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. But remember, James Dolan is calling the shots, so would it be a surprise to see the Knicks squander their cap space before 2015 when Rondo becomes a free agent? I think we all know the answer to that!   The post Carmelo Anthony believes Rajon Rondo will play for the Knicks appeared first on Pass The Pill - Kings of Hoops.
