Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
The new look Nets came to town to face-up against the Boston Celtic’s at home in the TD Garden. Brooklyn entered the Garden as one of the most improved teams in the Atlantic Division and hope to compete for a division title. The Nets were able to hold onto their franchise player, Deron Williams by bringing in six time NBA All-Star Joe Johnson. The Celtics and their fans have gotten to know Johnson well over the course of the last few years battling in the playoffs with the Atlanta Hawks. This unique make-up presents quite a tough assignment for the Celtics guards as they are arguably one of the best starting 1, 2 duos in the league.
The game was exciting throughout with the Celtic's just falling short in the end 97 to 96. The Celtics started a lineup consisting of Rondo, Lee, Pierce, Sullinger, and Garnett. Surprisingly the Brooklyn Nets decided to start their reserves and sit their normal starting five made up of Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Gerlad Wallace, Kris Humphries, and Brook Lopez. Of the Celtics starters, Paul Pierce exploded to a game high 29 points in 27 minutes and hit 6 of 9 shots from behind the three point line. Jared Sullinger started again and faced a tough match up against Andre Blatche who poured in 23 points, a team high for the Nets. Rajon Rondo played well getting 5 points and 11 assists. The team as a whole rebounded well grabbing 35 boards but were still beaten to that of the Nets 41. The turnover battle continued but the Celtics were able to reduce the number to 17.
The game came down to the final seconds, when Stephen Dennis of the Nets went to the line and missed both free throws. The Celtics we called for a lose ball foul off the second free throw giving Brooklyn another chance at the lead. Tornike Shengelia stepped to the line and knocked down one of two shots to put the Nets up one and leaving about four seconds to score for the Celtics. Doc Rivers remained in the locker room after half so the rest of the coaching staff drew up a play giving Micah Downs a tip-in shot from an alley-opp pass but it was knocked out of bounds leaving just 1.3 seconds on the clock. The balance of game fell into the hands of Kris Joseph but his shot was just off the mark. Hours before the game unexpected news hit Celtic nation when the team announced the release of Jamar Smith and Dionte Christmas. Had Kris Joseph hit that shot it may have further benefited his case for a chance with the team.
The loss moved the Celtics preseason record to 1-4 as the Nets went to 3-0. The two teams will face-off again Thursday night in Brooklyn's all new Barclay's Center.

When the Celtics waived Dionte Christmas and Jamar Smith yesterday, speculation began on what the next step would be. Christmas had become a fan favorite and had impressed coach Tyronn Lue in summer league. He also had become close to Jason Terry, who took the rookie guard under his wing. There were several articles touting Christmas as having the inside track to gain one of the...
Doc Rivers said Kevin Garnett is unlikely to play tonight vs. #sixers. He said it will depend on how Garnett looks at shootaround #celtics

With 6 games in 9 nights, it was expected that Doc would more than likely rest his vets in at least a couple of the games. It looks like tonight vs the Sixers might be KG's turn to rest...
Rajon Rondo has long been considered a supremely talented player who has an attitude problem. He was supposed to be the leader of the Celtics for the past few years, but there were reports saying Boston was considering trading him because he had become so difficult. He’s had several run-ins with referees, blowups at the media, and he notably struggled to get along Ray Allen last...
Not much to say about this one except to learn from it and move on. The Celtics stayed within 2 in the first quarter but after that, it wasn't even close. Once again, one of the culprits was turnovers as the Celtics gave the ball away 21 times. Another problem was once again their pick and roll defense. That's one thing they have to solve before the season starts because...
As part of my NBA preseason rankings I will be ranking the best players by position in each division. Here’s the Atlantic division.PG Rajon Rondo- Boston Celtics- 11.9 pts. 11.7 ast. His offensive game has expanded immensely since coming into the NBA. His jump shot isn’t great, but much more efficient than it used to be. He’s also one of the best passers in the game, and I...
When a fan tunes into a Brooklyn Nets home game on TV, the Nets want them to recognize the venue right away. The stark, colorless palette and herringbone paneling on the hardwood floor will be the most obvious hints that the game in question is being broadcast in high-definition from the Barclays Center, not some passé, nondescript old barn that had ample parking but no "weathered...
In their second NBA preseason game the Celtics matched up against the 76ers for the first time since last years 2012 NBA Playoffs. The offseason brought all new players to both teams shifting Doc's gameplan and match-ups. One of the most notable differences was the absence of Andre Iguodala who was shipped off to Denver in a multi-player deal that brought former Lakers center...
The NOC has been doing behind-the-scenes videos with new Celtic Jason Terry. In the most recent edition just released, JET and Dionte Christmas play a game of pick-up basketball against 5 female basketball players. Hopefully this wasn't the reason Christmas got waived from the team!
Well, that was unpleasant to watch. Hopefully the Celtics got
that all out of their system and hopefully Doc can start defining roles a
bit more so that they can get into a groove before the start of the
season. Sixers fans aren't all that bad a bunch. They don't seem to
have the vitriol that say Knicks fans or Heat fans or Lakers fans have.
My favorite comment was...
The pregame show confirmed that KG will be sitting out tonight. The starting lineup will be
The young guys will get lots of playing time tonight and we may see more of what they are capable of doing.

The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Boston Celtics 107-75 during exhibition play Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center. The Celtics slogged their way to their third preseason loss in four outings. Paul Pierce scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, but also had four turnovers. For the Sixers, Spencer Hawes put up 17 points and eight rebounds in 17:36 off the pine, while...

1st time all star? Comeback player of the year? Top 25 player in the NBA? How about all three. Jeff Green is back and his resurgence is as important to the Celtic's future as is Rondo's steady climb to become and maintain the title of the league's best playmaker. What is even more important is their connection and how they are able to make eachother better. The duo of...
9 a.m. ET: Paul Pierce could not have looked much sharper than he did Tuesday, when the Celtics forward scored 29 points in a one-point loss to the Nets. Those same Nets host

This is the sixth of eight preseason games for the Celtics, who are still a long way from knowing exactly what starting lineup and rotation...
