Sacramento BeeThere was a new face at the Kings' practice facility this morning working with center Hassan Whiteside after the team's shootaround.
Clifford Ray, the former center and longtime coach in the NBA and CBA, will be working with the Kings as a consultant primarily for the team's big men when the team is at home, Smart said.
"He just has a way of talking and communicating with bigs who perform like a five-man," Smart said.
"I've seen all the guys that I've had, big guys that he's worked with, how they developed and developed mentally, how they developed to understand the game from the five position," Smart said. "That's really good teaching that our guys need to understand."We still have never heard the Celtics side why they got rid of Ray. Would be nice to have him working with JaJuan Johnson and Greg Stiemsma right now. That said, the Kings have a bunch of players that could use his tutelage, so this seems like a g...

We're a week away from the NBA trade deadline, so expect to hear several rumors (and denials) in the coming days. Today Chad Ford and Ken Berger threw out trade rumors on Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce respectively.
Chad Ford on Rondo:I know the Celtics are saying Rondo isn't going anywhere. But there are two problems with that. (1) It doesn't jibe with what a number of...
During the Celtics 97-92 overtime win over the Rockets on Tuesday night, Kevin Garnett reached a rebounding milestone. After grabbing 13 boards, Garnett now has 13,100 career rebounds and has moved into 12th on the all-time list, passing Shaquille O’Neal. And he enjoyed all 13,100 of them, right? Wrong.
“I like nothing about (rebounding),” Garnett said after the game according...
Doc Rivers was on WEEI earlier today and while a lot of people are focusing on him saying everything is cool between him and Rondo, I want to focus on something else he said:
“I underestimated a couple of things,” Rivers said. “Number one, the lack of practice time, how that all was going to affect us and every team. And you know, one thing we didn’t do where some...
Hours after he was accused of sending an inappropriate photo to a woman, Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was ruled out of Wednesday's game against New Orleans due to food poisoning.
Earlier Wednesday, the agent for Cousins denied allegations this his client sent a nude photo to a woman in a text message.
The photo in question started to show up on Internet websites...
Brandon Bass respectfully declines an interview, funny dude. New Garden sensation Balcony Gina engages in a vigorous and badass dance off against the Celtics Dancers.
Paul Pierce and Ray Allen each scored 22 points and the Boston Celtics rebounded from a lopsided loss and handed one to Portland Friday night, beating the Trail Blazers 104-86.
The win came after Boston lost by 32 points at Atlantic Division-leading Philadelphia on Wednesday, its worst setback in more than six years.
Kevin Garnett grabbed seven defensive rebounds to move into second...
Despite inconsistency in his production and trade rumors, Rajon Rondo has never lost the trust of Doc Rivers in running the offense.
Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton each scored 17 points to help the Sacramento Kings end a 10-game losing streak against the Dallas Mavericks with a 110-97 victory on Friday night.
Rookie Isaiah Thomas added 14 points, including three 3-pointers in the third quarter, for the Kings, who last beat Dallas on Jan. 11, 1999. The worst of those losses came in the first meeting earlier...

Josh Smith has been involved in trade rumors with the Celtics for a few reasons: 1) He has said he'd like to play for the Celtics and 2) He's a former high school teammate and good friend of Celtics star Rajon Rondo. So far the Celtics reciprocal interest in Smith is only lukewarm. This might have to do with the Celtics own interest in trading Rondo and the Celtics might...
Armed with a few extra pounds, a shorter vertical leap and foot speed that aged like a milk carton left open on the counter, I still occasionally play competitive basketball. Games have become an exercise in humility. Players I once outscored on my worst day now cut off my driving lanes with ease. Shots that used to fall hit the front rim. In my mind, I know my utility has deteriorated...

I am covering a high school basketball game tonight, so the Celtics-Sixers recap might be late, which really sucks since it’s the most important game (so far) this season. Sadly, I have to put money in my pocket somehow.(Note: This is where I would tell you about my ill-fated career as a knitter of women’s sweaters, but, also sadly, that never happened.)To tide you over until...
When people talk about the greatest basketball players of all time there are the usual suspects brought up; Russell, Chamberlain, Bird, Magic, Jordan, West, Kareem. When people talk about the greatest Celtics of all time; same story, different discussion. You always hear the same “popular” names such as Bird, Hondo, Pierce, Cousy, and Russell. [...]
