As sports fans these days, we almost can't watch a young player emerge on a stage like the NBA for the first time without immediately trying to answer this question: so who is he like then? As if every single player has this other guy who ten or fifteen or thirty years before him previously entered the NBA with the exact same skill set, mentality, and instincts, and played his career to a proverbial ceiling that we can now expect for said rookie moving forward.I'm not saying that's wrong, everybody does it, maybe we can blame Mel Kiper for that phenomenon, but regardless I am going to share my thoughts on that subject as they pertain to Kyrie Irving. It's important for me to first note that I do not believe Kyrie Irving's game is specifically similar to any one player. I think he's uniquely gifted, and that he's a different kind of good, especially compared to the other great young PG's who've entered the League recently. Kyrie is a cerebral point ...

Kyrie Irving is the Next…

Within the realm of professional sports, we tend to fall into the trap of Next. We have long searched for The Next Michael Jordan, be he Kobe Bryant, LeBron James or Player to Be Named Later.  Same can be said for Dirk Nowitzki, largely credited with taking dynamite to the floodgates of foreign-born NBA combatants. Who is the next European player with flowing blonde hair who can...

Irving, Cavaliers too much for Suns

PHOENIX (AP) -- Kyrie Irving is a fast learner. After playing only 11 games at Duke, he was deemed good enough to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft. In only his 10th game in the league, he scored a season-high 26 points, leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 101-90 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night. Irving, the catalyst of the improved Cavaliers, topped his...

The Kyrie Irving Era Keeps Looking Promising, As Cavs Beat Suns

Kyrie Irving has range. He's not a guy who looks to do just one or two things well on the basketball floor, he plays the whole entire game from the point guard position. He hit from all angles last night too in just his tenth NBA game ever. He pulled up on a dime[s] and connected from three point territory twice, he finished in traffic up at the rim on multiple trips, caught...

Needed win slips away as Suns enter gauntlet

PHOENIX -- Heading into Friday, the Suns knew what was on deck. They're about to spend more than a week on the road playing five playoff contenders, so a home game against the New Jersey Nets seemed the ideal way to bank a win before things got rough. Then they learned both Steve Nash and Grant Hill would be out for the night with injuries. Without Nash and Hill, the Suns...

Nash, Hill out for Suns against Nets (AP)

Phoenix Suns veteran starters Steve Nash and Grant Hill are sitting out Friday night against the New Jersey Nets because of injuries. Suns coach Alvin Gentry says the 37-year-old Nash has a "charley horse" type injury -- technically a right quad contusion -- and the 39-year-old Hill has a right quad tendon strain.

Cavs Rally Falls Short in L.A.

The Wine and Gold's second unit cut a 19-point Lakers' lead to just three in the fourth quarter, but Kobe Bryant's 42-point performance was a touch too much as the Cavaliers fell, 97-92, on Friday night at the Staples Center. Kyrie Irving led Cleveland with 21 points.
