For over a week now, we've been told that there was a deal on the table that would send Kevin Garnett to the Clippers in exchange for DeAndre Jordan. There was also a deal that would release Doc from his Celtics' contract to allow him to sign a similar contract with the Clippers. All this was according to sources, of course. Today, we see this in the Herald: Though this may be an attempt by the Celtics and Clippers to now make the Rivers and Garnett transactions look completely unrelated, the source said that the Clippers have never offered compensation for Rivers. A second source said two days ago that negotiations had never been close, and that Jordan has not even been part of discussions in the last two days. But in any event, progress stalled yesterday, reportedly with both sides scrambling to reconstruct a deal, possibly with the help of a third team. So, Jordan isn't in the deal. No compensation for Doc. And, although "sources" said that the deal was being sent to the Clippers' owner for approval before being sent to the league, it has never been close. And, what about all those sources that have been telling us that the deal was so close it could go down every day? The Herald has two articles - one by Mark Murphy and the other by Steve Bulpett and they seem to be at odds with each other. While Bulpett said that Doc never planned to be part of rebuilding, he was deciding between coaching the Celtics and broadcasting when Danny asked him to consider other coaching jobs. He also said that his sources say that Doc feels he could come back and coach the Celtics without any problems. Murphy says that Doc has no interest in returning to the Celtics and wants to coach a team with a brighter future. So which is it? Is Doc out there scouting out better jobs or is Danny pimping him out to other teams, even though Murphy and Bulpett both assure us that Danny still wants Doc coaching the Celtics this season? Along with just about every other Celtics fan, I'm getting tired of all this back and forth and all of these dueling sources. Maybe Danny should just release Doc to go and do whatever. Then we can get on with our off season. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
