No one knows what the future holds for Derek Fisher, but the prized baseball player now knows where he'll be spending the summer.
The Cedar Crest grad who is in his freshman year at the University of Virginia has agreed to play his summer ball for the Madison Mallards in Wisconsin. The Mallards compete in the 16-team Northwoods League, which is the nation's largest summer collegiate league and is comprised of teams made up of college players wanting to stay sharp during the offseason.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound outfielder was drafted in the sixth round by the Texas Rangers last summer but opted to attend the University of Virginia instead of heading into the minor leagues. Fisher will be Madison's highest-drafted player out of high school to ever play for the Mallards, whose most famous alumni is Ryan Spilborghs of the Colorado Rockies.

"Derek can be a legitimate five-tool player in the majors," said Mallards manager Greg Labbe in a news release. "If he plays like we know he can, he will be an impact player in our lineup, even as a freshman. Any time you get the opportunity to sign a guy like Derek Fisher, you jump on that chance."

The Mallards' regular season runs from May 30 to Aug. 12.
