Lionel Hollins is expected to be one of the hottest coaching free agents on the market this summer, when his contract with the Grizzlies is up. The Grizzlies’ overall impressive run to the Western Conference finals only gave him more leverage, and no other active coach with an expiring deal will be able to demand the salary and control Hollins will.
(In case anybody wants to protest that last point, keep in mind that Celtics coach Doc Rivers still has three more years left on his contract, while Phil Jackson and Jerry Sloan have been out of basketball.)
In seven years as a head coach, all with the Grizzlies franchise, Hollins has developed a reputation for being willing to get in his players’ faces. As a result, his teams have consistently been among the most tenacious and hardest-working squads in the league. This year’s team was no different. Marc Gasol earned the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award and point guard Mike Conley attracted wide respect after a playoff run t...

On the brink of being swept by the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins let his frustrations get the best of him in the fourth quarter. Down 89-81 with 3:54 to go, Hollins, upset with Bayless’ defensive positioning, shoved Jerryd Bayless into his seat on the bench as he subbed the guard out of the game. The Spurs went on to complete the sweep 93-86 and...
Memphis Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins gave guard Jerryd Bayless a little shove after pulling him out of the game with 3:54 left in the fourth quarter of Monday night's Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals.
Hollins appeared to be frustrated with the subpar defensive play by Bayless on San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker, and gave Bayless a light shove as he went...
During the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies loss to the Spurs on Monday night, frustrations boiled over on the Grizzlies sideline. Lionel Hollins, coach of the Grizzlies, was having a heated conversation with Jerryd Bayless about the importance of help defense and it led to a shove by the coach. The Spurs swept the Grizzlies out of the Playoffs, but at least sportswriters can follow...
Lionel Hollins is synonymous with the success of the Memphis Grizzlies. He took in a young group of players and led them to the 2013 Western Conference Finals after a [...]
If a GIF could sum up a playoff series, this one featuring Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins is one of them.
After Memphis guard Jerryd Bayless left play in the fourth quarter of game four, watch Lionel provides a little push to Bayless who falls onto a open chair on the Grizzlies bench:

If Hollins was a college coach he would be fired by now, but in the pros this becomes nothing but a small footnote. Jerryd Bayless was being a mini version of JR Smith and that caused Hollins to do this.
Considering the Grizzlies were swept, I wouldn’t expect much more to come from this, it wasn’t like he hit with a D Wade elbow or anything.
Seems that no one is making a huge deal about this and perhaps rightfully so. If you’ve ever played sports you know coaches can get physical at times so I don’t think it’s a huge deal but perhaps the league might have something to say once they review this footage. The Memphis Grizzlies were swept out of the Western Conference finals by the San Antonio Spurs. During Monday’s match up, Griz head coach Lionel Hollins and guard Jerryd Bayless had an exchange on the bench following Bayless missing a defensive assignment.
On the next play, Quincy Pondexter was fouled and Bayless was pulled from the game in favor of Tony Allen.
The two began talking...
The Grizzlies have little time to celebrate and appreciate the best season in this franchise's history after being swept from the Western Conference finals.
The organization faces several major pivotal decisions, including the future of coach Lionel Hollins, free agent Tony Allen and how to handle a couple of burgeoning player salaries.
Guard Mike Conley said Tuesday the Grizzlies...
Lionel Hollins' relationship with Zach Randolph has been strained at times throughout the Memphis Grizzlies' season, according to sources.
With the Grizzlies' season over in a sweep to the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference finals, Hollins will be a free agent coach.
Randolph averaged just 10.4 points in the series.
Both Hollins and Grizzlies management appear...
Before fully beginning their head coaching search, the Clippers will reportedly pursue ‘big name’ candidates first, including Jeff and Stan Van Gundy, Pacers assistant Brian Shaw and Grizzlies head coach, Lionel Hollins.
According to Ken Berger, CBS Sports:
[Alvin] Gentry has emerged as a candidate to replace Vinny Del Negro, whose contract was not renewed by the Clippers last...
