Dirk Nowitzki is getting his game back into form following an extended offseason, but the wins just aren't coming for the Dallas Mavericks.
Perhaps a visit by the lowly New Orleans Hornets will change that.
Nowitzki and the Mavericks will try to avoid their first four-game home losing streak in four seasons on Saturday night when they face a Hornets team that's won just once in its last 20 visits to Dallas.
Out the first 27 games of 2012-13 following offseason right knee surgery, Nowitzki is averaging 10.0 points off the bench in six games back. The former MVP set season highs for points (19) and minutes (29) on Wednesday in Miami, but the Mavericks lost for the 10th time in 12 games, 119-109 in overtime.
Dallas (13-20) was outscored 9-3 in the final 3:37 after Nowitzki's 3-pointer.
"Execution down the stretch has been one of our problems all year,'' he said. "We're 0-6 in overtime (this season) and lost a lot of close ones during the season in...
BEST OF MAXIM
DALLAS The Dallas Mavericks lead the NBA in different starting lineups with 15. But Saturday night at the AAC comes the most newsworthy, intriguing and important change of all: Dirk Nowitzki will make his season-debut as a first-teamer.
'We just feel it's time for him to do that,' said Dallas coach Rick Carlisle as the club prepared for its visit from the Hornets.
Despite all the heroics we have come to expect from Dirk Nowitzki, the one-legged fade-away shot, the top of the key three pointers, the free throw shots we know will barely brush the net, all that combined could not prevent the Dallas Mavericks from going into an overtime game and eventually losing to the Miami Heat.
I don’t watch the games live anymore, it’s kind of one of...

There was a huge ovation when the 11-time All-star was introduced before the home game against New Orleans.
Nowitzki missed the first 27 games this season recovering from arthroscopic right knee surgery.
After making his season debut Dec. 23 at San Antonio, the 7-foot forward made his...

Many of us have had dreams of playing one-on-one with our favorite NBA players but one little Dallas Mavericks fan at a Dallas-area hospital got the chance of a lifetime to play one-on-one with Dirk Nowitzki. The little boy's name is Will Kolassa and watch as he shows off his range against Dirk on a mini basketball hoop in his room:(Courtesy of Bush League Chronicles)
MIAMI -- The Heat figured this one might be different. After all, suiting up again for the Dallas Mavericks was none other than longtime Miami nemesis Dirk Nowitzki.
Nowitzki, recovering from knee surgery, was out two weeks ago when the Heat won easily 110-95 at Dallas. But he was on hand Wednesday at AmericanAirlines Arena, coming off the bench and playing his sixth game of the...
Tweet The Dallas Mavericks fell to 13-21 on the season after a 99-96 overtime loss to the New Orleans Pelicans Hornets Saturday night. The Mavs have lost 11 of their last 13 games. It’s clearly been a rough stretch for Mark Cuban’s guys and the frustration level around the team is understandably high. As [...]

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban took to Twitter to voice his displeasure with the officiating following the Mavs’ 99-96 loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday night at American Airlines Center.
Cuban tweeted: “Im sorry NBA fans. Ive tried for 13 yrs to fix the officiating in this league and I have failed miserably. Any Suggestions ? I need help.”
Someone in the Dallas Mavericks organization wondered what it would be like if Shawn Marion could play inside the original Nintendo Super Mario Bros. video game. Haven't we all wondered what that would be like?
In this case, that someone in the Mavericks organization came up with the video to share their vision: Super "Marion" Bros., featuring Shawn wearing the...
Eric Gordon completed a three-point play with 4.7 seconds left in overtime and the New Orleans Hornets won 99-96 Saturday night to spoil the Dallas Mavericks' first game this season with Dirk Nowitzki in the starting lineup.
After a timeout, O.J. Mayo was beyond the 3-point line when Gordon went up the air and by him. Gordon's foot made contact with the ball, knocking it...
Kevin Durant is one of the most efficient and unstoppable scorers I, or the League, has ever seen. Simply said, the guy can put the ball in the basket. Although he may not (yet) be the League’s overall best player, as a recently crowned King in Miami may have already laid claim to that title, you would be hard-pressed to find someone with superior scoring ability to KD in today’s...
