Jazz 92, Wizards 88. Retransmitting. With AP Photos. By LYNN DeBRUIN AP Sports Writer Paul Millsap had 16 points and 15 rebounds to help the Utah Jazz hold off the Washington Wizards 92-88 on Wednesday night. The Jazz led by 22 points in the second quarter and 15 entering the fourth, but the road-weary Wizards fought back to within two on Kevin Seraphin's jumper with 6:57 left. Millsap's putback put Utah up by seven, but the Wizards came back again as Utah went cold. Millsap's 14-foot baseline jumper with 21 seconds left halted a nearly 3-minute scoreless stretch for the Jazz and bumped their lead to 90-84. Martell Webster's third 3-pointer cut Utah's lead to 90-87 with 15 seconds left, but ex-Wizards guard Randy Foye made both free throws with 11 seconds remaining to seal it. Millsap added two blocks and three steals. He led six Jazz players in double figures. Webster led Washington with 15 points. John Wall added 14 in 27 minutes for the Wizards, who shot 36 percent. Emeka Okafor grabbed 17 rebounds. Early on, the Wizards looked like a team ready to take an early flight home after a five-game road trip. They were shooting 23.8 percent after the first quarter, compared to 63.2 percent for the Jazz. Utah, however, has a history of blowing leads and Wednesday was no different. Gordon Hayward's three-point play put Utah up 47-25 with 5:58 left in the second. Utah used a 22-6 run to open the second quarter, with the Jazz depth showing. Enes Kanter made his first four shots for a 10-point quarter and Hayward attacked the rim with some fancy dribbling and footwork. He also made his first four shots. The Wizards scored just six points in the first 6 minutes of the second. But the Jazz left the door open, shooting 1 for 11 over the final 6 minutes of the period. They still led 52-38 thanks to a 32-18 advantage on points in the paint. Utah took a 73-58 lead into the fourth but the Wizards opened on a 14-2 run, capped by Trevor Ariza's 3-pointer with 8:57 left. Millsap, frequently the subject of trade speculation, took over in the fourth. He drew a charge from Wall and had a key steal against Nene with 3:24 left that resulted in a clear-path foul for Hayward, who sank both free throws. Bradley Beal's basket off Utah's 14th turnover pulled Washington to 88-84 with 1:10 left. NOTES: Utah Gov. Gary Herbert was in attendance, sitting next to Jazz President Randy Rigby. ... Kanter finished 4 of 4 and is 14 of 15 over Utah's last four games.

Nuggets coach George Karl on JaVale McGee: ‘Lazy and crazy isn’t going to make it work’

Washington Wizards fans can tell you that watching JaVale McGee on a nightly basis can be incredibly frustrating. The 25-year-old center has amazing potential, but he makes far too many bone-headed mistakes like this that cost his team. Now, he is a Denver Nugget. And from the sound of it, George Karl is already frustrated with his big man. “He’s got to understand that lazy and...

2nd Half Predictions for the Wizards and Can They Make The Playoffs?

Playoffs? We’re talking about Playoffs?   It has been well documented that the Washington Wizards started the season for lack of a better word, poorly. The Wizards lost their first 12 games and through December were 4-24. But 2013 rolled in, and the Wizards appear to be a new team, one that may be able to score points and compete with the rest of the NBA night in and night out...

The Bradley Beal and Jordan Crawford Dilemma

Credit: Bob Youngentob CSN Washington   January has been a crazy month for the Washington Wizards’ Bradley Beal and Jordan Crawford. In the first month of this year, both have hit game winners for the Wizards — Beal on January 7th vs. the Thunder and most recently Crawford on January 21st vs. the Blazers. So while these two have both contributed to Washington’s January success...

Is The Wizards Winning A Bad Thing?

Wednesday Wizards Report   Happy Hump Day Wiz fans! So far on our current 5 game road trip the Wiz are 2-2 and end out the trip in Utah tonight as they take on the Jazz at 9:00pm eastern time.  Washington is 4-2 since John Wall returned to the line-up and 5-2 in our last seven. This Wizards team has a different swagger about them since Wall has returned and it is surely the most...

- Wizards at Jazz: Reality Check Strikes Wiz Kids

Wizards look to extend home winning streak

The Washington Wizards have found some stability since John Wall returned from injury. Getting Ricky Rubio back hasn't had that effect for the injury-plagued Minnesota Timberwolves. Back from their western swing, Wall and the Wizards will try to extend their season-high home winning streak to four on Friday night when the Timberwolves try to get on track with the first of two...

Well-rested Jazz survives road-weary Wizards

SALT LAKE CITY -- The Utah Jazz had an unusually easy schedule since the beginning of last week, playing just one game during an eight-day period. While Utah enjoyed some R&R, the Washington Wizards were busy playing four games on the road. Nobody watching the Jazz eke out a 92-88 win over the Wizards would have guessed that based on how Wednesday's game ended at EnergySolutions...

Wizards-Jazz Preview

With 13 of their next 18 at home, the Utah Jazz have recaptured their winning ways in Salt Lake City at the right time. Prolonging that success may not be as easy as it once was against a Washington Wizards team that has started playing with some confidence lately. The Jazz will try to pick up their fifth straight home win and sixth in seven games overall on Wednesday night when...

Jamal's Moment: The Misfortune of 'Party John'

I held onto hope for Peter John Ramos for an unreasonably long time. Ernie Grunfeld selected Ramos 32nd overall in the 2004 NBA draft, his first as President of Basketball Operations with the Washington Wizards.  Grunfeld had a relatively solid draft history prior to assuming his role with the Wizards, but one of his more noteworthy accomplishments was selecting Michael Redd...

Game Preview: Utah Jazz at LA Lakers

The Utah Jazz, winners of their last four, travel to L.A. to take on the struggling Lakers, who are a phenomenal 2-10 in the month of January. L.A. needs a win, somehow, but facing a confident Utah team doesn’t seem to be the most favorable of matchups. Can the Jazz get the season sweep? AccuScore data does not seem to think so. The simulations have the Lakers as heavy favorites...
