Whether or not the Brooklyn Nets end up with Dwight Howard, newly acquired swingman Joe Johnson is certainly not lacking any sort of confidence.

With the team opening their new arena in Brooklyn this season, fans have been buzzing about the possibility of a New York basketball rivalry between the Knicks and Nets. The Nets haven’t been relevant for a while, but hopes are high after acquiring Joe Johnson, resigning Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, as well as adding power forward Mirza Teletovic.

So, who is really the best team in New York?

Before the pep rally — which was relatively tame compared to the Miami Heat trio’s coming-out party two years ago, although the Brooklyn version did include streamers and a party van — Johnson also declared victory when asked which team is best in New York.

“Definitely Nets,” Johnson said. “Brooklyn Nets.”

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the New York Knicks the past few seasons due to the star power of Carmelo Anthony, Amar’e Stoudemire, Tyson Chandler, and Jeremy Lin. That being said, the team really hasn’t accomplished anything. They were swept in the first round by the Boston Celtics two years ago, and won only one game in the first round against the Miami Heat.

The Nets are looking to take some of the buzz away from the Knicks, as well as surpass them in the standings this season. With a healthy Brook Lopez, Joe Johnson might prove to be right.

Either way, this should certainly be fun.
