Last night in the NBA Summer League that is in Las Vegas now, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Denver Nuggets 88 to 74 behind a great showing by former Tar Heel power forward John Henson. The 6’11″/230 lbs forward had an impressive night, realizing a double double, with a game high 19 points (7 for 10 ~ 0 for 0 ~ 5 for 8), to go with 13 rebounds (also a game high), three block shots, a steal and three TO’s while having a plus/minus differential of +18 in 20 and a half minutes of playing time. Having watched this game I can say that Henson is just way too good for the competition he is going to face this week in the Sin City. Nuggets Bucks Box Score If there is one problem with what the former UNC player did is that by being so dominant inside he did not work on what he came to Vegas to do… “On offense, I’m working on different mid-range jump shots,” Henson. “Today, we were pounding it on the inside, so the jump shot wasn’t necessary, but I’m sure I’ll work on it in game situations.” On the other hand, it seems that Henson is listening to the coaching staff on what he must do in order to see playing time in 2013-14… “They said I have an opportunity to play next year if I get ready and work hard this summer, so that’s what I’m doing.” In the end, for John Henson this is all a warm up to what will come in the regular season. He is not needing of minutes in the Summer League, but a good spot in the rotarion come the `13-`14 season. That is going to be up to the coaching staff to find. The Bucks will be back in action today as they take on the Pelicans.
