Rumors and Rants:
Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith has known Dwight Howard since they were kids and played on the same AAU team. On Sunday Smith weighed on on the center’s future before the Hawks and Los Angeles Lakers tangled at Staples Center. He claimed Howard was simply too loyal to leave the Lakers this summer as a free agent.
I’ll go ahead and give you a minute to stop laughing as you think about Howard’s last year or so with the Orlando Magic.
Here is what Smith had to say about Howard:
“I can’t pick his brain and be in his head but to me, I don’t see him going anywhere. It would be a shock to me. Dwight is a loyal athlete and a loyal person. He’s not a quitter and doesn’t run from situations. That’s why I believe with this franchise and the way he’s talked so well about it, I can’t see him going anywhere.”
Smith is right, there’s almost no chance that Howard goes anywhere, but loyalty probably doesn’t have anything to do with it. The main reason the big man won’t leave the Lakers is becau
BEST OF MAXIM
Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard was once one of the most beloved players in the NBA, but somewhere along the line he became a phony. Or, should we say, that became the public perception of Superman.
Howard has battled critics all season long in LA. Most of them are the same critics who have been riding him since he was a member of an Orlando Magic team that was heading in...
In light of Dwight Howard's recent disparaging comments about his former teammates in Orlando, Jameer Nelson has come out with some scathing advice for his old running partner.
OKLAHOMA CITY Did Dwight Howard rush his way back into the Lakers' lineup?
He had back surgery last April, was traded to the Lakers in August and started his comeback by playing two exhibition games last November. He tried not to second-guess his decision Tuesday a few hours before his 55th regular-season game.
"Looking back on it, I could have sat out the whole season...
At least somebody still has a high opinion of Dwight Howard. His old buddy, Josh Smith, weighed in on Howard’s impending free agency, not only sharing his thoughts on his friend’s future but also offering a glimpse into the big fella’s soul.
In an eyebrow-raising interview with the Los Angeles Daily News over the weekend, Smith said “it would be a shock to me” if Howard...
Dwight Howard had an acrimonious departure from the Orlando Magic. Naturally with his debut as a visitor in Orlando nearing (March 12), shots are already being fired across the country.
"My team in Orlando was a team full of people who nobody wanted," said Howard in a video interview with CBS2KCAL9. "I was the leader and I led that team with a smile on my face."...

Kobe AKA Black Mamba AKA Vino is showing that age is just a number as far as he’s concerned. Check out this dunk on Hawks Josh Smith from the Lakers win on Sunday.
That actually looked like #8 fro Kobe. The Lakers are now at .500 with about 6 weeks left until the playoffs
Tweet The Black Mamba may be 34 years old, but when it comes down to crunch-time of a game, he’s still going to deliver. Kobe Bryant and the Lakers were in a tight contest in the fourth quarter with the Hawks, down 94-93, when Kobe drove down the lane and hammered down this monster jam [...]
The Lakers might of overlooked Phil Jackson for the head coaching position, but he’s still helping the team. Jackson, who’s been through a few surgeries, and recoveries, himself, has been texting Dwight Howard with some encouraging words.
According to Mark Medina, LA Daily News:
It turns out Jackson has become a trusted mentor for Lakers center Dwight Howard.
“Phil, he texts...
Phil Jackson has always been a great motivator and a master manipulator. His latest move might actually impact the Laker franchise in a way nobody ever imagined. Jackson has become a mentor of Dwight Howard’s and has been text messaging the Lakers center. Dwight is having a rough season in his first with the Lakers. He’s still getting into shape and having issues related to...
The Oklahoma City Thunder's Serge Ibaka put back the Lakers' Dwight Howard in a big way on Tuesday night.
I have to start this post by saying, good job by Kobe to getting by Al Horford for an easy two.
Now I can break down everything the Hawks did wrong here. First off, why don't teams double players like Kobe or Lebron and make someone else beat you? I never understand that. Secondly, that was a terrible job of Josh Smith fighting through the pick by Dwight allowing the Lakers...
