Despite the team still being alive in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, there are some interesting New York Knicks rumors swirling around head coach Tom Thibodeau. As the team prepares for Game 6 of their Eastern Conference semifinal against the Indiana Pacers, ownership and the front office are working on something big for the offseason.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the most recent Knicks rumors involve the future of head coach Tom Thibodeau. Charania has revealed that the team wants to keep him on long-term and is planning to offer him a massive extension, approaching $10 million annually.
“The Knicks very much want to lock in Tom Thibodeau long term…It wouldn’t surprise anyone if his next deal approaches 8-figures,” Charania said Wednesday morning during a segment on Run It Back on FanDuel TV.

The 2024-25 season was the last one of the current contract of Tom Thibodeau. Looking to avoid lame-duck status, Knicks rumors are that they will reward their head coach with a lucrative extension, one that he very much so deserves.
When Tom Thibodeau took over as head coach ahead of the 2020-21 season, the Knicks were a dumpster fire. They had missed the postseason in seven consecutive years, cycling through four different head coaches with two interim coaches.
During those seven years, the most wins the Knicks had in a single season was 37; in his four seasons at the helm, the least number of regular season victories New York has had is 37. Tom Thibodeau deserves a lot of credit for what he has done to help turn this franchise around.
In his four seasons, the Knicks are 175-143 in the regular season with three playoff appearances. They are 14-13 in those postseasons, as the team looks to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000 under Jeff Van Gundy.
