It’s no secret that Kobe Bryant has always had talent around him. Shaquille O’Neal, Pau Gasol, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, Lamar Odom, Phil Jackson, to name a few. Make no mistake that Kobe understands the caliber of players that he has played with over the years, but he believes that the current team, housing names like Dwight Howard, Steve Nash and Pau Gasol, is the most talented team he has been a part of.

“On its face, it’s the best talent I’ve been around,” said Bryant. “Whether that translates into winning a championship, that remains to be seen. But just on paper, you’re obviously talking about defensive players of the years, MVPs, All-Stars. You’re talking about a myriad of things where guys are on top of their position and have been at the top of their position.”

I think Kobe has a case to be made. Steve Nash is arguably the best passer the NBA has ever seen and Dwight Howard is the most dominate big man in the NBA right now. Add in the skilled play of Pau Gasol, the heart and defensive ability of Mett World Peace and the fact that the Lakers have a guy (Antawn Jamison) who averaged 17.2 ppg coming off the bench and it seems as though the sky may be the limit for this squad.

I tend to agree with Kobe about the talent aspect. Sure, Dwight Howard is not the player that Shaq was when he was in LA, but the Lakers never had anything close to the caliber players of Gasol, Nash, Jamison and World Peace when they managed a three-peat back in the early 2000′s. Their next best player after Kobe and Shaq was Fisher or Robert Horry. Neither of those players can hold a candle to Steve Nash or Pau Gasol.

I’d even go as far as to say that the Lakers EASILY have the best six-man rotation in the NBA. But that doesn’t mean they will be able to beat the Miami Heat, or the Oklahoma City Thunder. Chemistry matters in this league and Kobe knows it. That is why he said that this was the “most talented team on paper”. He understands what LeBron and Wade went through their first season together. Bryant gets the circus that is the NBA season and the hurdles the Lakers will have to overcome if they want to mesh in time to win it all in 2013.

Getting used to playing with a guy like Dwight Howard may prove difficult for Kobe. Howard begged for more touches for YEARS in Orlando, and that was when he was the number one option. He’s not likely to see more shots now that he plays with Gasol and Bryant. Can Howard handle being the second scoring option?

It’s an 82 game season and the Lakers are surely loaded with talent. They’re sure to win a lot of games, but making wins translate into championships can be an entirely different game.

Howard ready to follow Bryant's lead

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Lakers are Kobe Bryant's team. Just ask him. "It's my team," said Bryant at the Lakers annual Media Day on Monday, "but I want to make sure that Dwight (Howard), when I retire, this is going to be his (team) and I want to teach him everything I possibly know so that when I step away, this organization can ride on as if I never...

Kobe Bryant on Los Angeles Lakers, 'It's still my team"

Thanks to Los Angeles Lakers media day back on Monday, we have the answer to the most important question of "With all the new stars with the Lakers, who's team is it?"As you might have already figured from the title of this post, Kobe isn't backing down as LA's top dog:"I got a question earlier about whose team this is," Bryant told reporters. "...

Kobe Bryant says Lakers is his team still

As we all know, Lakers All-Star Kobe Bryant is reaching the end of his career.  We no longer see the acrobatic dunks or the speed to get by defenders.  After almost 17 years in the league with the Lakers, they seem to be diligently looking for a replacement and that is looking more like newly acquired Dwight Howard.  According to Kobe Bryant, not so fast.  In an interview by...

The Lakers are still Kobe's team, and Dwight's just fine with that

I generally respect a lot of reporters. Many of them do a great job covering their respective teams. But sometimes a few of them ask lazy questions aimed at getting a reaction rather than getting information. Because, as the success of horribly disgusting screaming matches like First Take tell us, we just loves us them wild reactions. So with that, I bring you this. The LA...

Just in case you’d forgotten, Kobe Bryant reiterates that the Lakers are his team

Many things have changed since the Lakers played a NBA game. Andrew Bynum is gone. Steve Nash and Dwight Howard are now Lakers. And we all watched Kobe Bryant play a toned down brand of basketball in the Olympics that allowed LeBron James to be the focal point. So with all those changes and Bryant’s willingness to play second fiddle, one began to wonder who would be the focal point...

Jalen Rose tells us how it felt to have Kobe Bryant drop 81 points on his team

Storytelling is starting to become one of Jalen Rose’s new hobbies. As we all know on January 22, 2006 Kobe Bryant scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors. Jalen Rose, who was on that Raptors team discussed that historic night and had many interesting things to say. He also makes a couple of jokes about Smush Parker, Luke Walton and Sam Mitchell who was coaching Rose at that...

Kobe Bryant says no Clippers rivalry and Dwight Howard answers whose team it is: Lakers media day 2012

The Lakers held their media day on Monday along with the majority of the NBA. Of course there were tons of questions whose stories will dot the start of the ’12 – ’13 season. When will Dwight Howard be ready to hit the floor, how will Kobe and Steve Nash blend together, are the Clippers [...]

Knicks Day Video: The Night Willis Reed Fired Up The Garden

The New York Knicks franchise is full of many, and I mean many, history-making moments. From an NBA title, John Starks' dunk over the Bulls, players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant tearing up the scoreboard to some of the NBA's greats wearing the Knicks uniform, there is no doubt New York truly is a Mecca for basketball. However, one moment is so undeniably unforgettable...

Kobe, Gasol Prefer FIBA Rule On Flopping

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol both suggested on Wednesday that the FIBA rule for international play of a warning for the first flop and then a technical foul for the next.

Kobe Says Some Of You Are Dumb, And He’s Right

“Here’s the thing: Some people are just very, very dumb. I keep hearing it from some people that I just want to score and that other stuff. Nobody has won more championships than me in my entire generation. I’ve got five of them. You can’t be selfish and win one championship, let alone five. That argument should be in the coffin by now. I don’t like having the ball....
