The Lakers’ training camp is set to begin later this week and every player on the roster is expected to participate. Well, everyone apart from that Kobe Bryant guy. In his yearly pre-season meeting with the media, Mitch Kupchak addressed the current health of this Lakers squad, as well as revealing the number of players the team will likely be brining to camp. The following transcript is courtesy of Lakers.com: Kupchak: With the exception of Kobe (Bryant), we expect everyone to be able to participate to some degree in practice. Now clearly, we’re going to be a little more patient with Pau (Gasol), Steve Nash and Ryan Kelly. But we expect a full training camp for us to maybe use 19 people. There are some spots that are up for grabs, but it’ll be competitive and it’ll be spirited. We’re excited. It’s not surprising to hear that Kobe won’t be participating in practices just yet. The Black Mamba’s return date is still unknown and Kupchak didn’t sound too optimistic that Bryant would play in the season opener. As for the current roster: the team currently has 16 players under contract, yet not all of those players have guaranteed deals. NBA teams can bring a maximum of 20 players into training camp, but must trim that number to 15 by opening night. Darius Johnson-Odom and Eric Boateng are two players rumored to be camp invites for the purple and gold this year. .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } @media(min-width: 500px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } } @media(min-width: 800px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }
