Remember last week when NBA owners pressured commissioner David Stern into blocking a deal that would have sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers because moves like that were why those very same owners had locked out the players in the first place?

Well, actually if I remember correctly the reason for the NBA lockout was the fact that owners claimed they were paying far too much for players and needed more room to maneuver financially. As a group, owners had given out so many bad contracts that they couldn’t get out from under them. The financial sustainability of the league was the actual reason for the lockout. And today we got proof that those owners have learned absolutely nothing.

Kwame Brown, who is statistically (and, not just statistically) one of the worst players in the NBA was given a one-year, $7 million contract by the Golden State Warriors.

Let that one sink in for a bit.

Kwame freaking Brown just got $7 million? To play basketball? What, is he getting $10 for every time a ball clangs off his hands and goes out of bounds?

Brown can’t score, he’s 6’11 and can’t block shots, has horrible hands, is slow and can’t even shoot free throws. He’s also been injury prone as he’s played in 41, 38, 58, 48 and 66 games over the past six seasons.

Last year with the Charlotte Bobcats Brown started 50 games (if you didn’t know how bad the Bobcats were in 2010-11, you just found out), he avearged 7.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 0.6 blocks in 26.0 minutes per game. He is almost seven feet tall and was a starter on a horrendous basketball team and he couldn’t even average 10 points a game.

Somehow the geniuses who run the Warriors saw that stat line and decided it would be a good idea to throw $7 million at the guy attached to it.

Seriously, they would have done better to invest it all in Solyndra. At least then they could have ******* about having been duped. With Brown we know exactly what Golden State is getting: a waste of uniform fabric.

This is just an absolutely ridiculous development.
