One LA Clippers star spent this summer getting into great shape, and his hard work will pay off greatly for the LA Clippers.
While the LA Clippers find themselves in the midst of the Aspiration controversy surrounding Kawhi Leonard, it’s easy to forget how strong a roster they’ve put together this offseason.
The signing of Brook Lopez was much needed, given their lack of depth at the center position. And the Clippers landing John Collins gives them a score-first forward alongside Kawhi Leonard.
To add to their guard depth, the Clippers signed Bradley Beal to be their next shooting guard and signed Chris Paul to come off the bench.
But the new stars aren’t the only source of excitement. One of their longtime players has gotten into the best shape of his career over the summer.
Ivica Zubac spoke to reporters after the LA Clippers’ first preseason practice session. One reporter noticed Zubac was leaner and in much better shape.
When asked, Zubac explained he lost almost 10 pounds just to drop a little fat and pack on some muscle. He added that while he feels more nimble, he can also showcase his strength more.
“Just wanted to get better. I wouldn’t say 10, maybe 8-9 pounds… Just wanted to lose some fat and add some muscle. I feel lighter, but I feel stronger at the same time.
“I feel like I’m in a good spot. We had a nice little conditioning ramp up for the last 6 weeks, so I’m in pretty good shape.”
If Zubac has packed on more muscle while losing weight, he could use that to his advantage on the defensive end as a shotblocker and post player.

The Clippers have put together quite a strong side. In fact, the Clippers’ starting lineup next season is among the best in the Western Conference.
However, given that the Clippers have put together what is now the oldest roster in NBA history, there are going to be concerns about their durability.
It’s not just the fact that they have several old players. But it’s these players’ injury histories, especially over the last few years, that leave a lot of questions unanswered.
Hopefully, Ty Lue and the rest of the Clippers can work around these limitations and put together a strong performance next season.
