After what occurred against the Indiana Pacers on Friday night, Brandan Wright's value to the Dallas Mavericks just increased twofold. Wright is the backup to starting center Samuel Dalembert. But Wright is out indefinitely with a small, non-displaced fracture of his left shoulder after incurring that injury during an Oct. 8 practice session. Wright's value surfaced when the 6-11 Dalembert went to the bench with four fouls early in the third period Friday, and the Mavs turned to 6-6 DeJuan Blair to protect the paint and also to contain 7-2 Roy Hibbert. It was not a good outing for Blair -- the Mavs were a minus-29 when he was on the floor -- and it showed how much the Mavs miss Wright. "(Wright is) very important, but until we get him back we’re only going to be talking about the guys that are available,'' coach Rick Carlisle said Saturday. "We can’t lament that right now. "We've got to pick it up with the guys we have available.''

Dallas Mavericks finish .500 at the end of preseason

The Dallas Mavericks, who did a complete overhaul during the 2013 offseason, showed signs of greatness during the 8-game preseason, finishing with a record of 4-4. Dirk Nowitzki looked great and back to vintage Dirk, finishing with 107 points in seven games, an average of 15.2 points per game, with a high of 24 points in the Mavericks’ third game against the Orlando Magic. Nowitzki...

Mekel settling in as the backup point guard

These three-plus weeks of training camp have been fast and furious for Dallas Mavericks point guard Gal Mekel. The rookie from Israel basically has been in some sort of baptism by fire as he tries to translate the game he knew back home to the NBA game. And it’s a huge difference between the players in the NBA and what Mekel was accustomed to playing against. “The level, of...

Dalembert’s foul issues trouble Mavericks

It’s become obvious that the Dallas Mavericks might not advance far this season unless they can find a way to keep Samuel Dalembert out of foul trouble. That became evident Friday night against the Indiana Pacers. When Dalembert had just one foul, the Mavs led the much taller Pacers at halftime 41-39. But once he went to the bench with four fouls with 7:55 remaining in the third...

One Question for Each NBA Team: West

One Question for Each NBA Team: West   Dallas Mavericks – Will they trade Shawn Marion/Vince Carter?             I think the Mavericks will end trading both of them. Each player is entering a contract year, which is a very enticing asset. Marion has turned back the clock this preseason and has averaged 9.7 points and [...]

Dallas Mavericks: Breaking Down Current Roster and NBA Draft Needs

Two years removed from an NBA Title, the Dallas Mavericks are coming off an off-season in which they failed to reel in Dwight Howard and settled for the wildly inconsistent Monta Ellis. Dirk’s tweet this summer summed up the Mavs’ fan-base mindset, “We worked all summer to get DH to Dallas. Welcome back to the Mavs, Devin Harris….” Since the 2011 Playoffs, Mark Cuban...
