Influenced by a span of eight games? You’re damn right I am. This isn’t a long road swing in December, though. This is the NBA Playoffs and the Golden State Warriors are blessed to have the newly-minted Splash Brothers running the back court. San Antonio Spurs big man Tim Duncan has nearly triple the NBA service time Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson have combined. That hasn’t stopped the Warriors duo from averaging a combined 44 points per-game. Granted, the youngsters are probably encountering a relatively lucky streak and haven’t faced the best perimeter defenders between the Denver Nuggets and Spurs but neither team has been able to defend one without the other tormenting them. The difference so far has been youth and hustle. In the Warriors’ 100-92 win in Game 2, Golden State got 22 points from Curry and a prolific performance from Thompson, who put up 34 points, 14 rebounds, while shooting 8-of-9 from 3-point territory. It’s been obvious over his two seasons in the league that Thompson has a silky smooth jumper but his numbers during the playoffs have been like something out of a video game. Curry has been relatively healthy for an extended period of time, which is all the Warriors need because they know he’ll produce when on the floor but his leadership and play have taken GS to the next level in the Western Conference during a time when teams like San Antonio and the Los Angeles Lakers are getting increasingly older, making it easier for a team like the Warriors to muscle their way into the playoff picture. With the Spurs failing to match the quickness and athleticism of Golden State, it’s becoming increasingly likely the Warrriors will face either the Memphis Grizzlies or the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
