As the trade deadline approaches for NBA teams, the Nets are looking to remain competitive despite holding a solid record of 24-16. On Friday night, Sam Amico, NBA columnist for FOX Sports, tweeted that the Nets would be interested in making a trade for Utah Jazz forward Paul Millsap.
Not “likely,” but hear they might make play for Millsap at deadline. RT @brooklynnets11: Any of these likely to Nets? Nene, Boozer, Millsap?
— Sam Amico (@SamAmicoFSO) January 19, 2013
The tweet was in response to a question asking, “Any of these likely to Nets? Nene, Boozer, Millsap?”
Millsap, 27, is currently averaging 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for the Jazz this season. To obtain Millsap this season, the Nets would need to complete a sign-and-trade because they are beyond the hard cap. Millsap will become an unrestricted free-agent this offseason. If the Nets are able to acquire Millsap before the trade deadline, they would receive his “Bird Rights,” therein allowing them to sign him to a long-term deal this summer.
