Well so much for starting the season 3-0, as New Orleans suffered their first loss of the season falling 93-78 to the visiting Phoenix Suns.  Once again Eric Gordon sat out due to his bruised knee, they certainly could have used him in the lineup.  The offense was just downright terrible.  As a team, the Hornets shot 28.9% hitting only 26 of the 90 shots taken.  Yet despite the atrocious shooting effort the Hornets somehow kept within’ striking distance for a majority of the game.

Carl Landry dropped in 17 points to lead New Orleans going 6 of 16 from the field and hitting on all 5 free throw attempts.  Emeka Okafor was a beast gathering 16 rebounds and chipped in 10 points for a double double.  The only player that shot the ball well was Jason Smith off the bench hitting on 4 of 9 field goal attempts for a mere 8 points off the bench.  Jarrett Jack took some poor shots and ended up with 12 points on 6 of 20 shooting.  Overall it was just a very poor shooting effort for the entire team.  Al-Farouq Amino finally got his first points as a Hornet, scoring 6 points and he did pull down 7 rebounds.

The defense overall was solid, not great but it was able to keep them in the game despite the offensive effort.  It wasn’t until late in the game that the Suns were able to seal the victory.  Rebounding as a team has been great, even on the offensive end they just have not been able to convert those chances into points.  Of the 57 rebounds pulled down last night, 24 of them were on the offensive end.  So the chances were most definitely there, it doesn’t help when the team’s top scoring threat is out with an injury.  The good news is Gordon should be back on the court when the club travels to Sacremento to do battle with the Kings.  Another player we may be getting to see is Gustavo Ayon, who finally was cleared to travel with the team.
