Nick Young has been one of the few bright spots during this dark Lakers season, both on and off the basketball court. On the court he’s averaging a team-high 16.3 points per game while shooting 34 percent from three-point range, and when he’s off the floor he’s even more entertaining with his flamboyant clothing and uncensored social media activities. The Lakers are currently on a four-game losing streak and have lost nine of their last ten games, which is exactly why the team needs a guy like Young to step up and feed the reporters a funny analogy every now and then. He did just that at practice today. “We’re still the Lakers and will come out and fight each night. We’ll turn things around,” Young told Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News. “Stick with it. It’s like relationships. Not everything is perfect in a relationship. Sometimes a girl is getting on my nerves and [I] want to leave her when she’s not cooking me a nice meal.” As funny as it sounds, Young’s right. In a way, fans are “in a relationship” with the Lakers. Sometimes relationships hit rough patches, just like the Lakers have right now, though it’s usually worth working through the issues and making it through the storm. In order to enjoy the good times you need to have the bad times, after all. Sure, the Lakers are currently 14-23 and are tied for the sixth most losses in the league, yet this is one of the rare seasons that they actually own their 2014 draft pick. This year’s draft is expected to be one of the greatest of all-time – even Mitch Kupchak thinks so – and L.A. could nab a future All-Star and possibly even a franchise cornerstone if they play their cards right. Then there’s free agency over the next two summers: Carmelo Anthony is a possible target this year, though it’s unclear whether the Lakers will pursue him, while Kevin Love can become a free agent in 2015 and is said to have the Lakers high on his wish list. In short, the Lakers have plenty of ways to turn things around going forward, and as we all know, they’re never down for long. Oh, and by the way, Young wasn’t talking about any girlfriend in particular here – at least I don’t think he was – he just seemed to be speaking in general. I’m sure Iggy Azalea‘s a great cook… .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } @media(min-width: 500px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 300px; height: 250px; } } @media(min-width: 800px) { .bottom-of-post-responsive { width: 336px; height: 280px; } }
