Photo Credit: Newsday Pau Gasol’s career with the Lakers has been very interesting, to say the least. Upon arrival, Gasol was seen as a savior for the Lakers, and many believed the Lakers stole him from the Memphis Grizzlies. Gasol didn’t disappoint either, being a core member of a team that went on to win two championships. However, the story has been a bit different since the last title in 2010, and the Lakers fans seem to think Gasol may be more part of the problem than the solution. Heck, Gasol wouldn’t be a Laker right now if it weren’t for David Stern’s “basketball reasons.” The idea that Gasol was stolen from Memphis has taken a hit as well, as a key part of the trade, Pau’s brother Marc Gasol, has become one of the better centers in the league. In fact, many now say that Marc may be the better of the two. Pau is due to be a free agent this summer, and with the Lakers only having two players, Steve Nash and Robert Sacre, under contract, there are whispers that this may be a good time to part ways. If not, the Lakers may be looking for Gasol to take a pay cut in order to stay with the team. However, Gasol…isn’t exactly on board with that plan. Here is what he said to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News about the situation, courtesy of Probasketballtalk: In the interest of the Lakers maximizing their financial flexibility, would Gasol accept taking a significant paycut? “Probably not,” he said. “You have to explore your options, but I would like to continue to play for the Lakers and maybe finish my career here. But you have to see the cards on the table.” I can’t really blame Pau here, especially when you consider how he’s been treated by the Lakers. He has always been one of the most under-appreciated players in the league, and when a team tries to ship you out of town, there is really no reason to think you owe them a pay cut in return. Gasol’s best days may be behind him, and I am interested to see how he plays in the first months of this season without Kobe or Dwight, and thus being the focal point of the offense, much like he was in Memphis. Those first months may be the deciding factor on what his market value will be this summer, and whether any team will be willing to pay him star money to leave LA. The Lakers only have two players under guaranteed contracts for next season in Steve Nash and Robert Sacre and just a little more than $10 million in total salary committed. The Ed Davis/Jon Leuer Conundrum in Memphis

On one hand it’s unfair to directly compare Jon Leuer and Ed Davis. The two forwards have completely different styles different games different strengths. But they stand in line together behind Zach Randolph and one’s minutes will come out of the other’s pot. To anyone who has waded through the Grizzlies first two sloppy preseason performances Leuer has been a bright spot albeit...

VIDEO: Chris Kaman finds Pau Gasol for the dunk

Pau Gasol and Chris Kaman showed some nice chemistry last night against the Denver Nuggets. On this certain play, Steve Nash fed the ball to Kaman who zipped a pass to a cutting Gasol. The Spaniard then collected the pass, took one dribble and slammed it home. We expected to see this kind of big-to-big passing from Pau to Kaman, but not so much the other way around. If the two big...

Dwight Howard's departure from the Lakers wasn't graceful. In his lone season in purple and gold, he didn't pan out the way many thought he would considering he had Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant at his side.
