What in the name of Jack McCloksey is Joe Dumars doing? A week went by with the Detroit Pistons patiently waiting to see what would shake out in the free agent market while other teams made their signings and trades. Once the Dwight Howard deal with Houston went down, it was believed that the Rockets would workout a deal to obtain Atlanta Hawks free power forward Josh Smith in a sign-and-trade deal, but less than 24 hours later, the Pistons ended up signing the highly athletic Smith to a near max deal, 4-years and $56 million, per Adrian Wojnarowski. This move makes zero basketball sense when looked at inside a vacuum. Nothing against Smith, he’s a fine basketball player, who can sometimes dominate inside because of ability to literally jump over the competition. He is a premier shot blocker, and can fill it up at the rim. But, the Pistons did not have a need for this in their starting lineup with their already young and efficient frontcourt which includes Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. Drummond and Smith could have nightly block parties on defense, but there is no room for all of these guys on the offensive end. Smith [...]

Well a source close to Rondo who has talked with the guard since the Stevens hiring said Rondo is looking at the move with a “completely open mind.” Rondo makes his offseason home in Louisville, Ky., and it’s...

Will Josh Smith Be Another “Detroit Breakdown” For Pistons?

Many NBA observers considered Detroit Pistons President Of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars, one of the brightest young minds in the Association, just a few years ago. However, the former Pistons guard kick started the franchise’s deterioration, when he traded point guard Chauncey Billups to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson during the 2008-2009 campaign. The deal reinvigorated ...

With the Dwight Howard domino fallen, the decisions of the other major free agents are sure to come in swift. Friday, as the Warriors were trying to clear cap room for a potential blockbuster, the Warriors reached an agreement with free agent forward Andre Iguodala, perhaps cementing the Warriors' place in the Western Conference's elite. Saturday, the Pistons got the other...

Are the Celtics out of the running for Josh Smith?

While much of the NBA news today surrounded Dwight Howard's decision to sign with the Houston Rockets, the NBA's Hang Time Blog reported on the non-Dwight news of the night, among which I came across this tidbit: Paul Millsap agreed to terms on a two-year, $19 million deal with the Atlanta Hawks, sliding into the power forward role vacated by the pending move of Josh Smith...

image from is reporting that Paul Millsap will not stay in Utah and has instead agreed to a 2 year, $19M deal with the Atlanta Hawks. This news means that the Utah Jazz are without both Paul Millsap and  Al Jefferson, who earlier this week agreed to a huge deal with the Charlotte Bobcats. The Jazz clearly are looking to re-build around Trey Burke...

Josh Smith has reportedly agreed to a 4-year $56 million contract with the Detroit Pistons and some in NBA circles are speculating that Rajon Rondo could join his schoolyard chum in the Motor City. It's been well documented that Rondo and Smith are good friends and want to play together and a core of Rondo, Smith and Monroe or Drummond would be pretty nice going forward. The...
