Andre Emmett is currently the Red Raiders’ all-time leading scorer. He simply had a knack for scoring, and an itch for throwing down, in other words he scored a lot and dunked hard. The 6-5 Guard is from Dallas, Texas, and consequently was recruited to Texas Tech where he played under famous coach Bob Knight. Emmett emerged as a Sophomore when he averaged 18.7 ppg and 6.6 rpg (he would average 6.6 rpg every year from Sophomore-Senior). Emmett had his best season Junior year, he averaged 21.8 ppg and played 37 mpg. His final year he would average 20.6 ppg and participate in the College Basketball Dunk Contest…and won.

Unfortunately that would be the peak of Emmet’s career. Emmett got drafted to the Seattle Supersonics in the 2nd round of the 2004 NBA Draft, but he was traded on draft day to the Memphis Grizzlies for a 2005 2nd round pick (Mickael Gelabale). Emmett only played in 8 games with the Grizzlies, and was 2-6 from the field, he averaged .9 ppg. The next season Emmett was apart of a huge trade sending him to the Miami Heat….As part of a 5-team trade, traded by the Memphis Grizzlies with James Posey and Jason Williams to the Miami Heat; the Boston Celtics traded Antoine Walker to the Miami Heat; the Memphis Grizzlies traded Greg Ostertag to the Utah Jazz; the Miami Heat traded Qyntel Woods, Alberto Miralles, a 2006 2nd round draft pick (Edin Bavcic) and a 2008 2nd round draft pick (Nikola Pekovic) to the Boston Celtics; the Miami Heat traded Eddie Jones to the Memphis Grizzlies; the Miami Heat traded Rasual Butler to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets; the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets traded Roberto Duenas to the Miami Heat; the Utah Jazz traded Curtis Borchardt to the Boston Celtics; the Utah Jazz traded Raul Lopez to the Memphis Grizzlies; and the Utah Jazz traded Kirk Snyder to the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets.

Emmett was later released, and played for the Lietuvos Rytas in the Lithuanian League. Emmett tried to get back into the league a few times with some Summer Teams and D-league Teams, but it never worked out. He ended up signing with Belgacom Liege where he led the Belgian League in scoring with 23.9 ppg. Later in Emmett’s career he found his way onto the Shandong Lions where he would set a CBA record for scoring 71 points against the Jiangsu Dragons. In 2010 Andre played for the Dallas Mavericks NBA Summer League Team but ended up signing with Fujian Xunxing in China.  Maybe if the NBA players stay in a lockout, the League can  get some scabs and we can see the great Andre Emmett in the league once again. We can only hope.
