We knew it was coming, but now it’s official. The Catholic 7 of the Big East (which ironically doesn’t include Notre Dame, at this point) will split to form separate conferences, effective July 1st. The details are still forthcoming, but the Big East as we know it is done. The old Big East conference is looking at the name “America 12” for the potential finished product, while the Catholic 7 has spent $100 million to purchase the old Big East label.
