NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Orlando has agreed to a sign-and-trade deal, sending restricted free agent forward Ryan Anderson to New Orleans for forward Gustavo Ayon, a person familiar with the agreement said.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the NBA's trade moratorium prevents clubs from announcing such moves before July 11.
The 6-foot-10 Anderson is entering his fifth NBA season out of California. He started 61 games for Orlando last season, averaging 16.1 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Ayon, also 6-10, spent his rookie NBA season in New Orleans last year after playing in Spain's top pro league. The 27-year-old Mexican started 24 games for the Hornets, averaging 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 20.1 minutes.
Anderson has exceptional shooting range, giving him the versatility to also play on the wing. He led the NBA with 3-pointers made (166) and attempted (422) last season. He shot just above 39 percent from beyond the arc, which ranked 27th in the league.
The Hornets will have to figure out where Anderson fits best in a lineup that also will include top overall draft choice Anthony Davis. Davis is tall enough at nearly 6-11 to play center, but likely will have to begin his career playing mostly at power forward because he lacks the bulk to match up against some of the NBA's top big men such as Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum.
In Ayon, Orlando acquires a quick, strong and hustling frontcourt player whose court awareness drew praise from Hornets coaches. Ayon shot 54 percent last season with highs of 16 points (twice) and 17 rebounds, showing the potential to be a solid player if he can produce more consistently.

This off season has been nothing short of exciting for the New Orleans Hornets franchise, especially after selecting Anthony Davis with the number 1 overall pick in the draft. It seems the Hornets weren’t quite done adding to their front-court, as the Orlando Magic in a sign and trade sent the young forward to New Orleans in exchange for the fan favorite Gustavo Ayon. As with...
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports the Magic have agreed to a sign-and-trade deal with the Hornets that will send restricted free agent Ryan Anderson to the Crescent City for center Gustavo Ayon.
Anderson reportedly agreed to a four-year, $36 million deal with the Hornets. The Magic did not appear willing to match it and so Rob Hennigan did what he had to -- get something...
There's nothing quite like hitting the ground running, eh Rob Hennigan?
Hennigan probably still has stuff shipping to Orlando from Oklahoma City, but Orlando's new GM is not wasting any time blowing up the Magic roster and starting over. In the midst of pursuing a trade to finally jettison Dwight Howard, the Magic have agreed to send their second most valuable asset...
Guard Eric Gordon wants to play for the Phoenix Suns next year. The Suns offered him a four-year, $58 million max deal. Gordon has stated publicly that he wants to take it. There is only one roadblock with that plan. Gordon is a restricted free agent and the New Orleans Hornets are quickly going-for-broke [...]
Orlando has been engaged in Dwight Howard trade talks with at least the Nets and Lakers.
After all that happened after LeBron won his NBA championship. Free agents moving left and right, coaches getting hired and fired, and the Olympics are coming at us with full force. The biggest NBA storyline just happens to be six-foot eleven, 265 pounds, with a bad back. Yes, once again, the Dwight-mare has crept up once again into the mainstream, and this time, we have...
New Orleans Hornets guard Jarrett Jack called Ray Allen a "traitor" Friday, in response to the former Boston Celtic signing with the NBA champion Miami Heat. "Am I wrong for thinking ray allen is a traitor for signing with his rival team the heat? Tell me what u think!!!!!!" Jack wrote on Twitter. ESPN.com reported that Allen likely accepted the Heat's...

Anthony Davis to their Las Vegas summer league team.
The Magic continue to move closer to trading Dwight Howard and the Nets appear to be the favorites.
There are few things more amusing than seeing NBA players attempting to act and it appears that Dwight Howard/Carmelo Anthony will be part of one of the greatest Chinese sci-fi movies of all-time.The movie is called, "Amazing" and to keep the plot short and simple, it features Dwight and Carmelo in the fictional world of "The Sixth Sense" as a Chinese video game...
