Normally, a double overtime victory over the rival Miami Heat would be a reason to celebrate for the Celtics and their fans. However, this was not the case Sunday afternoon as Boston fans found out that star point guard Rajon Rondo would miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. Rondo is not ready to give up hope just yet, though, and he has decided to seek a second opinion with the famous Dr. James Andrews, Comcast SportsNet reports. Andrews has been in the news lately because of the highly successful surgery he performed on Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and the controversial way he handled the now-famous knee of Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. However, the Celtics remain realistic, as they are aware that the second opinion will not come for four to five days because of the amount of swelling in Rondo’s knee. Although Andrews is Boston’s No. 1 choice to aid Rondo in a second opinion, Rondo’s agent Bill Duffy told reporters that there are also other options if Andrews does not work out. The Celtics are still planning for Rondo to return to the team at the beginning of next training camp in early fall. Bulls star point guard Derrick Rose tore his ACL last April 28 and is not expected back until late next month. If Rose’s 10-month absence is any indication, the Celtics should not expect Rondo back until at least the beginning of next season.
