According to Jared Zwerling of, 31-year old free agent veteran point guard Royal Ivey will workout for the San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks in the near future. Royal Ivey speaking to the kids. He has workouts with the Hawks and Spurs coming up soon. — Jared Zwerling (@JaredZwerling) August 24, 2013 Ivey stands at 6'3" and in his nine NBA seasons, has primarily played the backup point guard position. Last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, he averaged 3.2 points, shot 43% from the field, and 42% from 3-point range in 13.2 minutes per game. Ivey participated in 53 games for the 76ers. He earned $1.2 million last season with the 76ers according to With the Spurs already stacked with point guards (Tony Parker, Cory Joseph, Nando De Colo, Patty Mills) it wouldn't make a lot of sense on paper to sign Ivey unless there was a plan in the future to trade one or two of their other point guards. Aside from Parker who one would consider un-tradeable at this stage in his career, Joseph, De Colo, and Mills are all still fairly young by NBA standards and have a lot more upside in the future then Ivey would have at 31. However, there still is a vacant 15th roster spot open in San Antonio, and after Deshaun Thomas decided to play in Europe, a player like Ivey could fill that position or perhaps a player invited to training camp, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the Spurs leave the spot open going into next season.

Royal Ivey to work out with Rockets, Spurs

Teams are now in the “who should we get for roster spot 13/14/15” mode looking at names you know but will have little impact during the season. Names such as Royal Ivey who has been in the NBA for nine seasons and spent the last one in Philadelphia where he averaged 3.2 points a game in the 53 games where he stepped on the court. He shot 42 percent from three and has been over...

Spurs big man Matt Bonner eats baby carrots like a boss (Video)

San Antonio Spurs forward/center Matt Bonner doesn't get many as opportunities to be in a television commercial as other NBA players. That means when an offer comes Bonner's way, he's probably not going to pass on the chance to make some extra cash, even if he makes himself look a bit silly in the process. Case in point: Bonner has the starring role in a rap video...

Allen Iverson retires a legend

Allen Iverson is a sure first-ballot Hall-of-Famer that has made his mark on the history of the game.  Sure, A.I. may not have ended his career on the note he would have liked to.  However, a superstar status like Iverson truly can’t go a whole career without receiving criticism and making a few poor decisions. For the majority of his career, Allen Iverson was fantastic, to say...

(Video) Flashback Friday: Spurs introduce Tim Duncan to San Antonio

Hard to believe it has been 16 years since the San Antonio Spurs drafted Tim Duncan in the 1997 NBA Draft but has it been one fantastic ride and it will continue for a couple more. From four NBA titles, countless All-Star appearances, NBA MVP trophies and much more, there is no doubt Duncan has his passport stamped for the Basketball Hall of Fame once he calls it quits. Looking...

According to French site, San Antonio Spurs' Tony Parker was hit above his right knee during a practice session with Team France and will sit out the team's next exhibition game versus Spain. Deshaun Thomas, Nanterre team photo

It will be a while (if at all) before San Antonio Spurs 2013 NBA Draft pick Deshaun Thomas makes his debut in the NBA but for now, he will be suiting up for French club Nanterre. Thomas and his new teammates recently took their team photo. Hopefully he put in the work to eventually wear black and silver instead of green and white. Do you like this new team @JSFNanterre...

Spurs’ Matt Bonner stars in new rap video commercial for healthy snack

Not often are you going to see an NBA player in a commercial, eating baby carrots, while his name is rapped in a video promoting a new healthy snack.  Seems like the ShakeDowns marketing group does a great job thinking outside of the box to get you to remember their commercials.  Hopefully they didn’t pay the Spurs’ Matt Bonner too much for this since he didn’t do anything. Spurs' Bonner becomes new face of baby carrots

One of the perks to being a major athlete is the endorsement deals. It has been well documented how much athletes can rack up by lending their name to a product. But when it comes to athletes-product partnerships there are big names (Nike Adidas Reebok etc.) and then there is baby carrots. A San Antonio Spurs' fan favorite promotes the latter. Matt Bonner now endorses seasoned...
