Andre Iguodala, often malligned for coming up small in key situations, hit two free throws with 2.2 seconds left on the clock to lead the Sixers to a 79-78 win and a series win.

“I have no idea how we won that game.”

When your coach opens his postgame press conference with this sentence, you know it was a crazy game. The Philadelphia 76ers snatched victory from the hands of defeat tonight, beating the Bulls on a pair of last-second free throws by Andre Iguodala. The one point, 79-78 win gave the Sixers a place in the NBA history books, becoming only the fifth team to ever be a top seed in the first round.

In all honesty, Philadelphia had no business winning this game. They were dominated on the glass, horrific on second chance points and nearly unable to get to the line in the last quarter. The 76ers didn’t even have an offensive rebound until there were eight minutes remaining on the clock. That is not usually a formula that bodes well for a team trying to close out a game. But somehow, this team that sounded almost impossible to win a close game door in the regular season defeated the best team in the Eastern Conference by under 5 points for the third time this series.

While Chicago was definitely not the healthiest team on the planet, they still have a deep roster that posed a significant threat for a team like the Sixers, who barely limped into the postseason. This series displayed a level of character and passion that we have not yet seen out of that locker room. If they can carry that energy into round two against the Celtics, we might have a series to remember on our hands. For now, Philadelphia rejoices on their first time out of the opening round since 2003.

Congratulations to Doug Collins, Adam Arron and the entire Philadelphia 76ers organization. The spotlight now rests directly on their faces. Philadelphia basketball is alive and well.
