It seems the San Antonio Spurs involvement in trade talks keeps growing, this time it has to do with Orlando Magic shooting guard J.J. Redick. ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted late Wednesday night that the Spurs are indeed interested in acquiring the guard from Orlando as is pretty much every team in the league. Add one more team to list of those showing interest in @JJRedick: San Antonio. Magic, from start, have wanted no less than a first for him (ESPNSteinLine) It might be surprising news considering the Spurs are interested in another guard for their team, especially when their large surplus consists of guards. However, Phil over at Orlando Magic Daily thinks J.J. would be a great fit in San Antonio and gives his thoughts on this rumor and more. "I think San Antonio would be a great spot for Redick. Redick would really fit the culture in San Antonio. He is an extremely hard worker. He is a smart basketball player and usually makes the right play. He can spread the floor with his shooting. He understands where to be in team defense. Redick is underrated with the ball in his hands and has grown on defense and as a passer. He is not the same player he was in college by a long shot. Redick is itching for the chance to play for a contender again and would be a great addition to any championship team. He is a true professional." "Can San Antonio get him? I do not see the Spurs having the assets the Magic want. Orlando is hoping to get a player on a rookie contract or a first round draft pick in return for Redick. That seems to be asking a lot and that might change as the deadline gets closer. But that appears to be the baseline right now. With so many teams showing interest, I get the feeling it will take more than an offer of (Nando) De Colo and the Spurs' first round pick. Then you have the question of is he worth the risk of not resigning him? He might be looking for a very rich contract this summer in the neighborhood of $10 million per year." Redick is a different breed though, a guard who can play both 1-2 positions in a Manu Ginobili-type way. He'd make the team better on offense with his shooting and passing, but it's unknown what the Spurs are looking to give up for him if the deal were to go down. We'll keep you posted on this and more trade news as it develops.
