U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!

After defeating Argentina in the semi-finals, Team USA earned a chance to beat who many believe to be the second best team in the world. Spain features strong big men in Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, and Serge Ibaka, which looked like it might be a problem against a team with a serious lack of defensive bigs.

At the end of the day, the star-studded USA Team ended up being just too much, by a score of 107-100.

Point guard Ricky Rubio of the Minnesota Timberwolves was missing during the games for Spain, as he is recovering from injury. That being said, Juan Carlos Navarro filled in admirably in Rubio’s place.

The Gasols and Ibaka did indeed prove to be a problem to the USA. Tyson Chandler, Kevin Love, and Anthony Davis are really the only true big men on the team. Chandler is a very good defensive post presence, Love is suspect at best and Davis lacks any real experience.

Marc Gasol sat for a while during the third quarter with foul trouble while his brother Pau dominated in the post.

However, USA’s perimeter players just proved to be too much.

No other team in this tournament could really match up against the likes of LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, etc.

Some worried USA would at one point die by their tendency to fall in love with the three-point shot.

They may not be the Dream Team, but they brought home the gold. And that’s all that really matters.
