So much for the “D” in D-League standing for “development” these days -- it’s more like, “Don’t call it a comeback” instead.

According to Scott Schroeder of Ridiculous Upside, league sources confirmed both Ricky Davis and Greg Ostertag have decided to make their comebacks through the NBA Development League.

Both players have signed D-League contracts and will find out their new teams after clearing waivers on Tuesday afternoon, the report says.

Davis, 32, last played for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2009-10 season before taking his game overseas to France, Turkey and China, before giving it one last go at an NBA return.

Ostertag on the other hand, has been out of the game since the 2005-06 season with the Utah Jazz. The 38-year-old center played 11-years in the league and has been toying with coming back to the league for the past two to three years.

Schroeder believes the Cleveland Cavaliers owned Canton Charge could pick up Davis and/or Ostertag, as they currently sit atop the waiver wire. They are followed by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Reno Bighorns, Dakota Wizards and Tulsa 66ers, in the waiver wire standings. Former NBA vets making a run at the D-League is nothing new really. We've seen the case before with Antoine Walker with the Idaho Stampede and most recently Jamaal Tinsley, who was selected this season by the Los Angeles Defenders as the first overall selection in the D-League Draft.

Expect the trend to grow.

It goes to show that truly, “basketball never stops”, even when you are out of the league for five seasons or bouncing around overseas.

It also goes to show that an Allen Iverson sighting could be coming to a D-League team near you.
