Tom Crean is a piece of work, ladies and gentleman. Not thirty seconds after Indiana clinched their first regular season Big Ten championship since 2002, Crean was in the face of a former IU assistant, now-Michigan assistant coach Jeff Meyer scolding him for what should be long forgotten bygones.
Crean couldn’t celebrate the win with his players and coaches. He apparently didn’t have time to shake hands with the Michigan players and staff. Nope, he had a bone to pick with Mr. Meyer. Crean stormed into a conversation between Meyer and Indiana assistant Tim Buckley screaming:
“You know what you did! You helped wreck the program!”
Coach, you just won the Big Ten championship. Cool down.
Before his time at Michigan, Meyer was an assistant coach at Indiana from 2006-2008 under Kelvin Sampson. It was Sampson’s time that left Indiana facing NCAA violations (from improper recruiting) and left Crean to pick up the pieces. Meyer individually was cleared of any wrongdoing by the NCAA following the fallout of Sampson’s violations.
Yet Crean couldn’t let something go.
According to umhoops.com, “Michigan also has a heavy recruiting presence in the state of Indiana. Three current Wolverines are from the Hoosier state and incoming recruit Zak Irvin picked Michigan over Indiana among other schools.”
Maybe Meyer farted in Crean’s face prior to the game. Maybe Meyer has hit on Crean’s wife. Either way, the immediate seconds after clinching the Big Ten championship wasn’t the time or place to dig up a grave.
I know one thing, you wouldn’t have seen this stunt pulled by the Tom Izzo’s and Mike Krzyzewski’s of the world.
