The United States men's basketball team defended its title on Sunday pulling away from Spain in the final minutes for a 107-100 victory.
The U.S. had to battle to the final whistle, just like in 2008 to win the gold medal at the London Olympic Games.
Kevin Durant scored 30 points and LeBron James added 19. James joins Michael Jordan as the only players to win an NBA title, regular-season MVP, NBA Finals MVP and Olympic gold medal in a single season.
When James was asked about his accomplishments over the season, he simply said, "this is all about the USA, the three letters on our jersey."
Pau Gasol with 24 points and Juan Carlos Navarro with 21 led Spain, which was only a few points down in the fourth quarter but couldn't find a way to win its first basketball gold.
The is the 14th gold medal for Team USA.
Both head coach Mike Krzyzewski and Kobe Bryant have said this is their last Olympics. Coach K leaves the national team with a 62-1 record.

If you’re like us, you wonder why Vanessa Bryant continues to go back to Kobe Bryant. It’s pretty obvious that that Kobe is doing his thing on the side, but she continues to come back for more. Before today, we could only guess why she does it. Maybe it’s the money. Maybe it’s because she doesn’t want to break up the family. Or maybe it’s because Kobe has put a “spell”...
Anthony Davis has a gold medal before he even plays in his first NBA game, but that doesn’t mean he’s above the rookie treatment. Just look at this picture Kobe Bryant posted on Facebook:
These boys are HAPPY as they fought a tightly contested race against Spain, you can see the excitement all over LeBron’s face as he dances. Congrats, boys!
Basketball fans may have thought it was too close, but by the time the final buzzer sounded, Team USA had gotten it done and brought home the gold medal for men's basketball by beating Spain 107-100. Kevin Durant dropped 30 points to become the all-time single-Olympics scoring champ, while LeBron James scored several crucial points near the end of the game and passed Michael...
Decades before LeBron James, Kevin Durant and company terrorized their international hoops competition, the one and only original Dream Team changed the course of basketball forever. Yes, it has already been 20 years since the Michael Jordan-Magic Johnson led U.S. Olympic team ran roughshod over the world at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and to mark the occasion veteran basketball...
LeBron James joined Dwyane Wade's team in Miami and became its biggest star. He won the NBA's regular season MVP and was instrumental in securing his first NBA title this past season. He streamlined all that into his second Olympic Gold this weekend and is now alone in a place where we always thought he should be. Unequivocally the best basketball player in the world. He...
This is from Kobe’s official Facebook Fan Page. Well, it looks like Superman has found a home. I wish nothing but the best for Big Bynum. I hope he follows what was a great season last year with an even better one next year. I know LA is excited about the deal and rightfully so. [...]

Dwight Howard held his first press conference as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, and one of the highlights was his impression of Kobe Bryant when he discussed their phone conversation from the night before.
We'll see how things work out in the coming months, but right now, Howard is all smiles.

The head of basketball's governing body doesn't foresee an age limit for the 2016 Olympics.
FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann said Saturday his feeling is that an under-23 policy limit for men probably won't be proposed for the Rio Games.
The NBA has said it may favor Olympic basketball using a model like soccer, in which teams are made up of players 23 and younger...
LONDON (AP) One more for the gold, and seemingly nothing that can prevent it.
This U.S. men's Olympic basketball team might not slow down until it's standing at the center of the medals platform again.
Kevin Durant scored 19 points, LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony added 18 apiece, and the U.S. powered its way back to the gold-medal game by beating Argentina 109-83 on...
The Americans say they are better than they were four years ago. So do the stats.
But they might not be the only ones.
In Sunday's rematch of the gold-medal game that produced a classic at the Beijing Olympics, the U.S. will square off against the Spaniards again.
''Spain is a better team than '08,'' LeBron James said. ''We understand that they...
The Americans left as champions four years ago and returned thinking they were even better.
This U.S. men's Olympic basketball team was an improved model over the 2008 version, players insisted, so versatile, so athletic that not only would they beat those gold medalists, but they could even take a game from the Dream Team.
The stats back them up, and a place in history is...

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
After defeating Argentina in the semi-finals, Team USA earned a chance to beat who many believe to be the second best team in the world. Spain features strong big men in Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol, and Serge Ibaka, which looked like it might be a problem against a team with a serious lack of defensive bigs.
At the end of the day, the star...
Whenever a team trades one of the top big men in the league (still in their youthful prime) to the Lakers and gets back scraps there is only one possible motive. They must be searching for Chris Wallace's acceptance and approval. It's like having daddy issues, but in this case wishing your father was Chris Wallace.
Now I don't put this trade solely on young GM Rob Hennigan...
