Ball Don't Lie:
During the 1998-99 lockout, Nike put out several now-classic ads poking fun at our need for the game. Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee were (and are) more famous than most of us, but their passion at a driveway game of HORSE or little Regina Miller's middle school game wasn't so different from our own. Without the NBA, everyone has to find a way to keep up with their hoops habit.
In an unsurprising move, Jordan Brand (a Nike offshoot, of course) has put together an ad campaign for 2011's work stoppage. In the spot, Heat guard Dwyane Wade, Hornets point Chris Paul, and Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony play basketball wherever they can, whether it's at a senior league in Miami, an inter-parish competition in New Orleans, or a friendly competition between hipsters (wearing skinny jeans) or Orthodox Jews (wearing yarmulkes) in New York. Oh, and then they all meet up in China. The real money lies overseas, you know.
It's a great ad, and not just because it's funny to...
BEST OF MAXIM
During the Monday Night Football telecast last night, the folks at Nike unveiled the latest Jordan Brand ad, a stylish (and globe-trotting) spot featuring Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul.

This ad, released by the Jumpman23 YouTube account, contains Dwyane Wade, Chris [...]
Lockout or no lockout, nobody can take away your love of the game. That’s yours to keep. With that, watch as Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony won’t stop balling in the new Jordan Brand commercial, “Love The Game,” that debuts tonight during the third quarter of Monday Night Football and immediately following on [...]
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Organizers say Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and Dwyane Wade are expected to headline an exhibition basketball game in Puerto Rico on Sunday.
(As NBA owners decide how many more games they’re willing to lose to the lockout, perhaps it is time to consider gains that can be made when the league returns. In our latest lockout series, we look at changes that could produce an improved product.)
Issue: The NBA’s only “closely guarded” rule during live-ball situations is the five-second count against players in post...
Details of the six-game, four-continent exhibition tour by NBA players set to begin at the end of October have not been finalized, but 14 of the 18 players approached have contractually committed to the tour, sources said, and deals with all 18 are expected to be completed Sunday night.
The list of players approached by Atlanta businessman Cal Darden include reigning NBA MVP Derrick...
