Nolan Smith of the Portland Trail Blazers had to be taken to the hospital on a stretcher after taking an elbow to head on a fast break by the Rockets' Zoran Drajic during a NBA Summer League game on Tuesday night.

The former Duke star lost his balance a few seconds after the hit to the head and fell down along the baseline. He suffered a concussion on the play but was released from the hospital on Tuesday night after his CT scan came back normal, according to the Oregonian

Following the play, a brief argument occurred between Houston's Royce White and Smith's teammate, Ekene Ibekwe. Cooler heads prevailed though and both teams headed off to their locker rooms after the referees decided to call the game with 42.9 seconds still remaining in the contest. It was a otherwise productive game for the second-year Blazers guard, who tallied 27 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals prior to the injury.

For Portland, finding a new coach now a priority for Trail Blazers

Who’s It Going to Be? The Trail Blazers team is finally coming together. The draft is over, and by the end of today we’ll know if Nicolas Batum is the starting small forward or not. All that’s left is that little thing of finding a head coach. It’s been four months since Nate McMillan was fired, and the team has yet to find a new head coach. Interim coach Caleb Kanales...

My Personal Perspective On Nicolas Batum Returning To The Portland Trail Blazers

Sitting on the ledge in the front room of my house are a pair of white and red Adidas shoes. This certain pair of Adidas is a size 16 and have an inscription on the back of each shoe, “Frenchy 88”. Along the outside of each shoe is a signature in black sharpie. The shoes, inscription and signature belong to small forward Nicolas Batum. Being a columnist and trying not to be...

Olshey’s Big Misses Just What The Portland Trail Blazers Need

The flight to Salt Lake City to lure hall of fame coach Jerry Sloan to Portland took just under two hours. The offer to Roy Hibbert, the best center in free agency, was a no-brainer. Both moves were made swiftly and with conviction.  Both were home run swings. Both left the Blazers with absolutely nothing… [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Trail Blazers Coaching Search Should Start and End With Interim Coach Kaleb Canales

Every year in the NBA draft, there are a few promising yet raw prospects out of mid-major colleges that cause headaches for team executives. Those players have the potential for greatness, but unlike their colleagues from the ACC or Big Ten, they do not come with the built-in justification if they turn out to be busts. Kaleb Canales seems to be this summer's coaching equivalent...

The Portland Trail Blazers matched the offer sheet given to restricted free agent Nicolas Batum on Wednesday. Blazers general manager Neil Olshey told reporters at the Las Vegas Summer League that they will honor the four-year deal worth $46.5 million given to Batum by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Blazers LaMarcus Aldridge Selling TX House With Pool Rock Climbing Wall; $1.75M!

We love athlete houses with killer pools. Love ‘em. Would buy one if this blog ever gets snapped up by a giant media company. Sure, Coed Media Group is cool and all, but our asses aren’t going to be sitting next to one of these pools until Coed is snapped up. When that day comes, my ass is relocating to Southlake, TX where BC HQ will be at LaMarcus Aldridge’s pad. Look at...

Portland Trail Blazers Letting Spite Rule Over Reason?

When Neil Olshey took over as Portland Trail Blazers General Manager, he said we wanted to bring in a winning culture, and lure the best players to play in the Rose Garden. His first free agency period?  Not so good.  With the recent trade sending Raymond Felton and Kurt Thomas to New York for Jared Jeffries, Dan Gadzuric, and two European contracts, and the draft of two project...

The Blazers have officially matched the four-year, $46.5 million offer sheet Nicolas Batum signed with the Wolves.

What matching Nicolas Batum's offer sheet means for Portland

The Portland Trail Blazers have officially matched the Minnesota Timberwolves four-year, $46 million deal for restricted free agent Nicolas Batum. The decision was announced by Portland general manager Neil Olshey this afternoon, ended weeks of posturing by Olshey, Minnesota GM David Kahn and Bouna Ndiaye (Batum's agent), with Olshey following through on his pre-free agency promise...

Olshey Brings “No Nonsense” Attitude to Trail Blazers

He may not have made any blockbuster moves, but so far this offseason, Neil Olshey has proven that he means business. However, a businesslike approach is just what Olshey wants to avoid. Paul Allen and Larry Miller had lost a true vision for the Portland franchise, which is why Olshey’s hiring led to Miller’s resignation. Miller was nothing short of set in his ways, and when...
