Washington Wizards Sign Former Thunder Hamidou Diallo to 10-Day Contract

Hamidou Diallo, a former three-year Thunder shooting guard, signed a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, reported by The Athletic's Sham Charania.

Following his combined five years with Oklahoma City and the Detroit Pistons from 2018-2023, Diallo has found himself competing at a high level for the Wizards' G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go.

At No. 7 in the G League standings, the 6-foot-5, high-flying guard has helped the Go-Go in five contests thus far this season, generating 19.8 points on 58.6% shooting, along with 7.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 29.7 minutes a night.

These numbers rival those of his six games played with the Oklahoma City Blue in 2018-19 – his rookie season – where he registered 19.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game on lesser efficiency. 

But in his three years with the Thunder, his spark as an electrifying, athletic guard provided great impact off the bench. 

Diallo would nearly double his point averages each year in Oklahoma City, going from 3.7 in his first season to 11.9 by his third, adding depth offensively and contributing as a lengthy perimeter defender prone to cause turnovers. 

The now-25-year-old's final year with the Thunder would give him the largest amount of play time he'd achieve in the league so far – reaching 23.8 minutes per game throughout the season.

The year following his departure from Oklahoma City saw him with a very similar level of production for the Pistons – but in his second year with them, he saw arguably the biggest role he'd carved out in his career.

Finding his way into the starting rotation in 29-of-58 games, he'd earn 21.9 minutes per contest to add 11.0 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting a career-high 49.6 percent from the field.

The next season, Diallo competed in 56 games but started none, taking a much smaller role as his minutes decreased by four and his shot attempts lessened.

Though, as the Wizards are struggling vastly in the Eastern Conference with a 6-30 record and sitting last in their division, Washington has seen what Diallo's provided for the Go-Go.

They'll hope to implement Diallo into the lineup and test if he can be of benefit to Washington as he once was with Detroit and Oklahoma City.

Now back into the NBA, he'll have something to prove.
