As solid as J.R. Smith was for the Knicks last season, the big impact he made was largely in part due to the fact he came off the bench. Able to provide his team with a boost later in games, the swingman wouldn't have the same effect if New York chose to start him.I make the case (a rather strong one too, if I might add) for the Knicks to keep Smith a reserve in order to maximize his contributions, in my latest piece for The New York Times. It is crucial to the team’s success that Anthony and Stoudemire find a way to mesh. Sharing the ball and developing a balance is key. New York is hoping Felton can help the pair connect the dots. Over the last season and a half, this has proved difficult enough, but adding Smith (who averaged 11.5 shot attempts per game, rather close to Stoudemire’s 13.9) to the equation only stands to complicate things.Anthony and Stoudemire have enough firepower to pace the starting lineup. What’s more, Smith showed last season that he could continue pacing ...

Entertainment journalist Ben Lyons visited the Knicks summer league in Las Vegas this past week where he interviewed J.R. Smith 1-on-1:  What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming season? I’m looking forward to winning. It’s been a long time since the Garden’s seen a winning team and hopefully we go out there and put up a lot of W’s.   Tell me what it’s like...

Could Carlos Delfino Be the Shooting Guard the New York Knicks are Looking For?

One of the positions the New York Knicks are still looking to solidify with the veteran’s minimum is shooting guard. They have full intentions of starting J.R. Smith this season — taking the ball out of his while going up the court and allowing him to focus on scoring and playing defense. However, they are still [...] [[ This is a content summary only. Veteran Laden Knicks Roster Should See More Success Next Season

While many teams in the Association have chosen to add youth to their rosters this summer, the New York Knicks have taken an opposite approach, shedding some younger players while replacing them with more experienced members of the NBA. Tuesday, the “New York Post” reported that the Knicks have signed veteran shooting guard Ronnie Brewer to a one-year contract, most likely...

Isiah Thomas still has James Dolan’s ear

While much was made of whether or not Carmelo Anthony played a role in the decision to not match the contract offer for Jeremy Lin, what was probably overlooked was that a former Knicks employee, or decision-maker for that matter, is still very much involved. For whatever reason, James Dolan still values the opinion of [...]

The Daily Take: How Jeremy Lin “Slammed” the New York Knicks

NBA owners really have to grow up.  Between Cleveland, Orlando, and New York, we have a consortium of owners who just don’t “get it.”  I am completely baffled at all times by old white guys who really think they’ve bought inanimate toys.  They sit around on their carpet and like marbles or pogs (yeah, I just said pogs . . . get ya Slammer game right), they watch them fight...
