With the Knicks having lost three out of their last four contests, Coach Mike Woodson may be looking to shake things up a bit. After starting the second half of the Knicks' matchup with the Blazers out strong alongside Tyson Chandler, Marcus Camby started at power forward against the San Antonio Spurs Thursday.Such an insertion would not have been as easily possibly, should Amar'e Stoudemire not have been back in the Knicks' rotation. In his first game back, Coach Woodson used Stoudemire as his backup center, subbing him in and out often for Tyson Chandler. If Stoudemire had returned to play last month, the decision to bring him off the bench would have been an absolute no-brainer. With the Knicks gelling so nicely to begin the season, it made no sense to rush the multi-time all-star back. Even so, thrusting him into the starting lineup would have been a risk with regard to the team's chemistry. Adding in such a pivotal presence may have disrupted the flow. But the fac...

D'Antoni: Stoudemire's criticism 'mind-boggling'

Lakers Coach Mike D'Antoni often claims to coach defense despite his reputation as an offense-only coach. So it wasn't surprising to hear D'Antoni defend his teachings after one of his former players, New York Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire, criticized him. "It's mind-boggling. I mean, come on," D'Antoni said Friday. "He threw Frank Johnson,...

Amare Stoudemire’s Return to Knicks Means Decision Looming About Forwad’s Long-Term Future in New York (Photos)

Amare Stoudemire is back, but the Knicks probably aren’t too thrilled about that fact. Despite getting one of the league’s top offensive players back from injury, New York was doing just fine without Stoudemire. Led by Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and J.R. Smith in the forward’s absence, the Knicks got off to a hot start and had Madison Square Garden buzzing on a nightly...

Amare Stoudemire gets cheered by Knicks fans in return game (Video)

For those of you wondering how New York Knicks fans would react to forward Amare Stoudemire returning to play his first game of the season, you can find out in this clip.Stoudemire (who has been out with a surgically-repaired left knee) came off the bench in the first quarter of play in the Knicks/Trail Blazers game to a rousing ovation from Madison Square Garden:

POTD 1/1/13: Amare Stoudemire on Victor Claver

As I pointed out in today’s Starting Lineup post, Amare Stoudemire’s return to the floor could’ve gone better.  That said, it could’ve gone worse, too.  While it would’ve been completely unreasonable to expect a player to sit out 30 consecutive games and come back to dominate, it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to presume STAT would need more than a game or two to regain...

Spurs-Knicks Preview

The New York Knicks have sputtered recently, losing three of their last four with defense largely to blame. Though Amare Stoudemire's return is grabbing attention, New York may have to look elsewhere to shore up that end of the court on Thursday night as it hosts the red-hot San Antonio Spurs, one of the league's best offensive teams. The Knicks (21-10) still own an impressive...

Amar'e rusty in return as Knicks fall

The Portland Trail Blazers overcame Carmelo Anthony's season high-tying 45 points and spoiled Amare Stoudemire's season debut, beating the New York Knicks 105-100 on Tuesday night. Nicolas Batum scored 26 points, Damian Lillard had 21 points, six assists and five rebounds, and LaMarcus Aldridge had 19 points and 14 rebounds for Portland. Stoudemire finished with six points...

D’Antoni: Did Amar’e Forget Woodson Was Defensive Coach When I Was There?

Rather than taking offense at Stoudemire’s observation, D’Antoni, who coached him for eight seasons with the Suns and the Knicks, congratulated him on his new attitude. “I think it’s great,” D’Antoni said Thursday after the Los Angeles Lakers’ practice. “I think it’s great that he’s listening. He might have forgotten that Mike Woodson was also running the defense...

The Starting Lineup: Blazers Dodge 45-Point Melo Bullet

In a 105-100 loss to the Trail Blazers, a relatively-healthy Knicks squad suffered what was just their third home defeat of the season.  Thirty-one games in, Amare Stoudemire finally made his season debut, which could’ve gone better.  Stoudemire finished with six points, a rebound, a block, and a pair of turnovers in about 17 minutes of playing time.  He had some success working...

D'Antoni responds to Amar'e

Amar'e Stoudemire seemed to take a shot at his former coach, Mike D'Antoni, and now D'Antoni has responded to the forward.

Mike D’Antoni Basically Calls Amar’e Stoudemire A Selective Listener

On Wednesday, Knicks forward and matador defender Amar’e Stoudemire praised current Knicks head coach Mike Woodson as the first defensive coach he’s ever played for: “I think having a defensive coach for the first time in my career is going to help,” Stoudemire said after practice in Greenburgh on Wednesday. “I’ve never been taught defense in my whole career. So to now...

Amar’e Stoudemire: No one ever taught me how to play defense

One of the main reasons the New York Knicks have been successful this season is their vast improvement on defense. They have allowed 97.5 points per game, which ranks near the middle of the pack in the NBA. Much of their improvement has come with Amar’e Stoudemire out nursing a knee injury. The Knicks have cooled off a bit as of late, but many wonder if Stoudemire’s return will...

Video: J.R. Smith went all slam dunk contest with this alley-oop

Maybe, just maybe, New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson has figured out how to get the best out of J.R. Smith. His talent is off-the-charts, and is having what appears to be his best year as a pro while averaging 16 ppg. He is also still delivering some jaw-dropping hightlights. Checkout this alley-oop reverse slame he threw down on Thursday night against the Spurs in the Knicks...

Pre Game News and Notes  Spurs vs. Knicks The 26-8 Spurs enter Madison Square Garden tonight playing their fourth game in five nights to play against a suddenly slumping Knicks team.  The Spurs have done well in second games of back-to-backs, going 5-3 entering such games tonight.  The Knicks, who are 3-5 in their last eight games, will look to get back into the win column...
