MINNEAPOLIS -- The NBA continues to include the Minnesota Timberwolves in asserting its global footprint.
The Minneapolis franchise announced Monday morning it will travel to Mexico City for a Dec. 4 clash with the San Antonio Spurs, marking the Timberwolves' first regular-season venture outside the United States since playing two 1999 season-opening contests in Japan. Minnesota also plans to host Russian professional team CSKA Moscow and travel to Montreal, Quebec for preseason exhibitions in October.
The Mexico tilt's part of the league's 12-team, 10-game NBA Global Games slate that features matchups in six different countries and territories.
With six players on the current roster hailing from other countries -- second only to San Antonio -- playing internationally makes perfect sense for Minnesota, Timberwolves president Chris Wright said in a release.
"With the huge international presence on our current roster and our increasing global popularity, this is a natural fit for us," Wright said. "The NBA has done a phenomenal job in growing our game globally, and we're excited to be a part of history as the NBA continues to expand its brand internationally."
It will be Minnesota's first game in Mexico City soil, while the nearby Spurs have played four preseason contests there.

Now that the dust has settled and reality has set in, the San Antonio Spurs had the NBA Championship in their palms during the final seconds of regulation in Game 6, but then a beast was awoken and shattered their dreams.

If a picture truly is worth a thousand words, then the story of the relationship between the San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich is perhaps best left in the hands of a skilled photographer than a veteran scribe. After all, Duncan and Popovich are men of few words when it comes to the media, so the thousand grabbed in one shot through...
Tim Duncan has had a career of pure excellence. For 16 seasons, it has been all about consistent winning, key plays and making himself and his teammates better. Rarely does Duncan let anything emote from him in victory or defeat just expecting victory like he was born to do it -- and he very well might have been.
Duncan has faced plenty of adversity in his career, but maintained...

MINNEAPOLIS -- Finally, Gordon Malone was exhibiting what resembled shades of his West Virginia self.
In 2008, Malone scored more than 35 points in back-to-back games, brushing past helpless defenders and making good use of his 6-foot-11 frame like he did so often in the old Big East.
But this was in a summer, pseudo-street ball league in New York dubbed Pro City, nowhere near the...
MINNEAPOLIS -- Like so many Minnesota Timberwolves' contests last season, their route in this year's NBA Draft carries an aura of predictability.
