Here at Turn On The Jets, we decided to take a page out of Robert Mays book over at Grantland (a polite way of saying rip his article idea off) by counting down the 115 days until the New York Jets kick off, with a daily reason to get excited about their return. Mays has the whole NFL to work with, we only have the Goddamn Jets…now there is a challenge, step your game up Mays! Also check out some of the best broadband deals! We continue today with preparation for endless Jay-Z references and jokes since Geno Smith formerly announced signing with his sports agency today! (Note, you can track this entire series right here) The decision of New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith to sign with Jay-Z’s Roc Sports Agency is the type of thing that will be senselessly overanalyzed and referenced. We have been a little guilty of it ourselves on Twitter, because who doesn’t enjoy a good Jigga lyric? Ultimately having Jay-Z as the figurehead of his sports agent’s company is going to impact Smith about as much as it impacted Joe Johnson and Brook Lopez this past year on the Nets…not at all. He’ll probably get a sweet car and throw the Diamond up in a few pictures but that’s about it. We will get the smattering of articles claiming Smith is more concerned with his reputation and marketing than football based on nothing and the New York media circus will continue on. Let’s just judge Smith by how quickly he picks up Marty Mornhinweg’s offense and how he performs on the field. Regardless, here is a preview of Tweets and headlines you are sure to see from the local media HARD KNOCK LIFE! GENO GOES 5/10 WITH INT IN PAD-LESS MAY PRACTICE. TIME TO PANIC? BIG ‘PICKING! GENO THROWS INT IN 7 ON 7 AT TRAINING CAMP! SANCHIZE TIME? 99 PROBLEMS BUT GENO AIN’T ONE! GENO PLAYS WELL IN JETS PRE-SEASON LOSS GET THAT DIRT OFF YOUR SHOULDER!  ANONYMOUS SOURCES SAY GENO SPOTTED WITH JAY-Z AT NYC RESTAURANT. IS HE FOCUSED? You get the picture. We do fully advocate them playing this at MetLife for all his big plays though and it is a song he should remember when dealing with the local press - NEW YORK DAILY NEWS STORY PITCH OF THE DAY - 1,200 words on how Sheldon Richardson’s Twitter handle is “GodForShort”. An anonymous source close to somebody who is close to somebody who might know somebody on the team noted that “it is a bit of a cocky handle, isn’t it? What does he think he is Kanye or something? I don’t know. I heard some guys think it is a bit much.” Gary Myers plans an extended follow up tomorrow on how Richardson’s “Twitter brashness and cockiness is a direct result of the culture fostered by Rex Ryan.” RANDOM JET TO REMEMBER OF THE DAY – JESSE CHATMAN! - He played with the Jets for one year in 2008, finishing with 5 carries for 8 yards and 2 receptions for 5 yards. Chatman had a monster finale in the pre-season with 29 carries for 93 yards and 6 receptions for 87 yards but was then suspended 4 games for substance abuse.
