Like I had written in my “Players Who Didn’t Get The Franchise Tag article from Tuesday, the Chargers opted to avoid slapping wide receiver Vincent Jackson with the franchise tag for the second year in a row, allowing him to test the free agent market. Will the Chargers be able to come up with a new long-term extension before free agency starts? Will they even want to? I’m doubtful on that. After Jackson’s multiple drunk-driving arrests, a three-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy and a hold out in 2010 because of a contract dispute, GM A.J. Smith might be ready to wipe his hands clean of the talented, yet slightly troublesome Jackson. Before I go into the top 5 teams who could back up the money truck up for Jackson’s services, lets take a look at his career stats:

Report: Redskins will look to land Vincent Jackson right away

According to, the Washington Redskin are expected to go right after Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson as soon as free agency kicks off on Tuesday. From the way it sounds, the Redskins are expected to right away make Jackson an offer he cannot refuse.  They clearly need a big-time target, now that they’ve landed the second overall pick in April’s draft...

The San Diego Chargers didn’t want to spend $13 million on WR Vincent Jackson

In one of the more perplexing moves this offseason, the San Diego Chargers did not place the franchise tag on WR Vincent Jackson. Jackson is now set to become a free agent once the free agency period begins on March 13th. There is a very good chance that once he hits the open market, the physical receiver will be in another uniform next season. Vincent Jackson is already...

2012 NFL draft: Possible selections for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

2011 was filled with promise for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they had seemed to find their quarterback of the future in Josh Freeman, but like so many young quarterbacks around the league he has taken a step backwards. As young and up and coming stars they see peaks and valley’s but such a dramatic turn around as Freeman and the Tampa Bay Bucaneers experienced can bring questions...

Report: Bears, Redskins will likely make a move for Vincent Jackson

According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, both the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins will show interest in wide receiver Vincent Jackson once he becomes a free agent.  Both teams desperately need a number one receiver. If I’m Jackson, I’d prefer to land in a place like Chicago, since Jay Cutler is a much better quarterback then what the Redskins currently have...

49ers to target Mike Wallace and Vincent Jackson in Free Agency

The 49ers are expected to target Mike Wallace and Vincent Jackson in Free Agency.  They have set up a specific price that they are willing to meet and will not exceed it for either guy but both are on list of targets when the 49ers start Free Agency.  The 49ers are one big play guy away from what would be a Super Bowl contender.  They made it to the NFC Championship with Vernon...

Cortland Finnegan Recruiting Vincent Jackson to Play Together with Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

In what came as somewhat of a surprise, the Tennessee Titans did not slap their franchise tag on defensive back Cortland Finnegan. To a lesser extent, the San Diego Chargers surprised a few people by not designating wide receiver Vincent Jackson as their franchise player, although his salary would have been quite higher than Finnegan’s, as it would have been his second...

Cortland Finnegan Recruiting Vincent Jackson to Tampa?

Free agent cornerback Cortland Finnegan has reportedly been texting fellow free agent Vincent Jackson and trying to convince him to accompany him to whichever team he chooses. According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, that team could very well be the Bucs, who are in desperate need of a wide receiver and could use a corner as well with much uncertainty at the position. The Bucs...

Bills might target Marques Colston

According to Joe Buscaglia of WGR 550 in Buffalo, the Bills might possibly target wide receiver Marques Colston, once free agency kicks off next week. I think it’s pretty clear the Bills are still looking for another dynamic receiver, even though they just locked up Stevie Johnson to a long-term deal. They’ve already been rumored to be interested in Vincent Jackson. Right...

Jerry Rice thinks the 49ers should try to sign Peyton Manning

The Colts deciding to release Peyton Manning was the big news Tuesday. And even before the decision became official, speculation as to who would land the future hall of famer in this event already mounted, with the Jets, Dolphins, Cardinals, Redskins and 49ers being mentioned as possible destinations for Manning. And on Tuesday, even Jerry Rice thinks it would be beneficial for the...
