photo credit: bmward_2000 via photopin cc Bilal Powell will be a Top 25 fantasy running back this season. He’s being drafted 52nd among running backs and 145th overall. Sound like something you might be interested in? Powell is perceived as an unproven backup on a crappy offense, but in reality, he’s a very good running back, primed to grab a starting job… in a crappy offense, yes, but not one that will hold back his fantasy production. The New York Jets are a bad football team, but by one measure, they’ve actually been one of the most efficient offenses in the NFL in recent years. Of course, because we all know what Mark Sanchez is capable of, that measure has absolutely nothing to do with quarterbacking. Since Rex Ryan took over the team in 2009, the Jets have ranked in the top seven in the NFL in adjusted line yards, a Football Outsiders stat that basically measures an offensive line’s ability to open up holes for running backs. As long as Nick Mangold is still anchoring the line...

Olbermann returns to TV, rips Jets reporter

Keith Olbermann made his unnecessary return to TV yesterday, opening “Olbermann Live” with an "As I was saying..." intro. And then he went and said what every sports blogger and, specifically, Boomer & Carton have been saying for years. Manish Mehta is a dope who makes up anonymous sources followed up by dropping plausible stories. He said it this way (transcribed...

Getting to a Good Place

Florham Park, NJ - The Jets are being quiet these days. Soft spoken Mike Goodson, who returned to the team facility today after being away for the past month "handling some personal stuff,' stayed in line with the approach, keeping it short and sweet with the media.Goodson prefers to forgo the blah, blah, blah with his teammates as well. " work real hard and earn the...

Jets beat Eagles in back-up bowl to finish off preseason

With most of the starters getting the night off, including quarterbacks Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez, the Jets won the "Back-up Bowl," 27-20, on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.A rough first series aside, quarterback Matt Simms did a lot to improve his roster stock against the Eagles' back-ups, going 33-44 with 285 yards, the most by...

Joe Namath Says Relationship With Jets Is Clumsy, Awkward

Joe Namath is the only link the New York Jets have to any form of championship or Super Bowl conversation. Namath and the Jets aren’t on the best of terms, and the New York legend doesn’t have a rhyme or reason for it.  During an appearance on the Rich Eisen podcast, Namath said his “relationship with the Jets is clumsy and awkward right now.” “Clumsy, awkward. Expressing...

State of Jets' tailback corps a little clearer

BY NICK ST. DENISJoe McKnight saw his fate. Mike Goodson probably did, too.Hours after McKnight was released from the New York Jets Monday, the NFL announced Goodson will serve a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. But unlike McKnight, Goodson remained a Jet through the day.The Jets' running backs situation looked a bit muddled just a week...

Braylon Edwards should find more work in the NFL

Braylon Edwards is now on the market after being cut by the New York Jets, but he’s likely going to garner significant interest from a number of teams around the league. Although he’s a chronic under-achiever in the NFL, he’s still good enough to improve many rosters around the league, and frankly, his services probably won’t be very expensive. When the Jets brought Edwards...

Rex Ryan-Mark Sanchez Controversy Gets Crowded as Columnist Mike Lupica Goes After New Jersey Governor Chris Christie

Fairly soon, it’s going to be quicker to list the people who haven’t weighed in on Sanchezgate than those who have. New York Daily News columnist Mike Lupica became the latest to pipe up on Tuesday, responding to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie‘s harsh words about Jets beat writer Manish Mehta in a radio interview on Monday. Mehta, Lupica’s colleague at the Daily News, was...

Graham Harrell Joins QB Mix for Jets

The New York Jets quarterback controversy took another turn as the team signed Graham Harrell. Harrell was released by the Packers after losing out on the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers. He was 23 for 42 with 169 yards and an interception in three preseason games for Green Bay. With Mark Sanchez’s health in question and uncertainty around Geno Smith, the addition of Harrell makes...

TSB Radio Episode #7

Last night Matt Falkenbury from DailyStache.net and the Jets Press Coverage Podcast with John Presser, stopped by to talk mostly New York Jets football and at the end of the show, Breaking Bad.  We had technical difficulties for the first 20 seconds or so.  So if you don’t hear anything at the beginning, don’t worry.  Baggy Dizzle and Manny helped Earl co-pilot the show, along...
