There is one thing you need to know when talking about the St. Louis Rams and head coach Jeff Fisher. He has never drafted an offensive player in the first round since he has been a head coach.Maybe that is why the Rams defense was one of the best in the NFL last season. His offense, however, was one of the worst. If the Rams are going to make a run toward a winning record and possibly challenge for a playoff berth. Remember, this is the same team that competes with Super Bowl runner-up San Francisco and surprise playoff team, Seattle twice a season. With the arm of Sam Bradford in Missouri and Fisher leading a defensive charge, why can’t this team be the next breakout franchise in the NFL?Releasing running back Steven Jackson to sign with Atlanta and losing Jake Long in free agency may have a part in the way this team performs in 2013.This team needs offensive help. There is no doubt it could use help on the line and a speedy receiver. The defense, which is strong and young, can still use depth, especially in the secondary. These may be the names the Rams will reply on to help the team make a charge in 2013.Round 1, Pick 16: Keenan Allen, Wide Receiver, California. The Rams need to make a real stab at selecting pass catchers in this draft. I have Allen the highest rated pass receiver in this draft. Allen is a great athlete who will spread the field with his speed and can help out in the return game. He may not become a No.1 receiver first off, but he could be a real dependable No. 2.Round 1, Pick 22: Tyler Eifert, Tight End, Notre Dame. He has good size and 6’5” and 250 pounds and reminds me of Coby Fleener. Eifert could be the dependable third-down option Sam Bradford can depend on. He will be a solid addition to this offense that can use all the weapons it can get.Round 2, Pick 46: David Amerson, Cornerback, North Carolina State. Amerson has good size at 6’1” and will provide depth in the defensive backfield. He shows that he can improve, as he did each year he was part of the Wolfpack team. I can see him also playing some at safety because of his height and his range.Round 3, Pick 78: Mike Gillislee, Running Back, Florida. Was a workhorse in the Gator offense. The Rams need a change of pace back and Gillislee could be a stud for this team. If he can learn to shed more tackles at the line of scrimmage, he could be a back who plays in the league for a decade.Round 4, Pick 110: Josh Evans, Safety, Florida. Here is my reason for this pick. First, this team needs skilled players and defenders. Evans has moved up the draft board after workouts in Gainesville. He could back up the defense and play with former Gator defender Janoris Jenkins who had an incredible rookie season. He also can play special teams.Round 5, Pick 142: Everette Dawkins, Defensive Tackle, Florida State. The Rams will continue to find depth for the defensive line. Dawkins played on a good Seminoles defense. Jeff Fisher likes strong, fast defenders who can rush the passer. Dawkins can rush from the interior and even play on the outside.Round 6, Pick 174: Reid Fragel, Tackle, Ohio State. He is not Jake Long. The Rams will still need to figure out their offensive line issues, but Fragel will be a solid back up. Remember that Mike Brewster was a Big 10 post season award winner and was not drafted. He was successful in his rookie season in Jacksonville. Fragel can play both sides of the tackle position.Round 7, Pick 206: Collin Klein, Quarterback, Kansas State. He is Tim Tebow-lite. Klein was a great college player. He is also a born leader. Klein has good size and presence, but does he have the skills to make it at the next level? Well, there is a that guy named Tebow who is still playing in the NFL.
