49ers general manager Trent Baalke told reporters that they’re hopeful to get linebacker Aldon Smith back after their bye week. “Our ultimate goal hasn’t changed: help Aldon get back to a place he feels very comfortable and move forward in a very positive manner,” Baalke said via the San Jose Mercury News. “…We’re obviously hopeful (for a return after the bye). At the same time, we’re prepared for either outcome.” Baalke was asked what Smith has to show them in order to return. “Progress,” answered Baalke. “It’s like anything, you’re developing that trust factor again. We all understand, including Aldon, that situations like this have to be in the past.” Need NFL Tickets? Loading... 49ers hopeful Aldon Smith will return after bye week

However in a recent interview 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke said that the team is hopeful Smith could return soon. “Our ultimate goal hasn’t changed: help Aldon get back to a place...

Aldon Smith Could Learn a Thing or Two from Alex Boone

Reports indicate that linebacker Aldon Smith could soon return to the San Francisco 49ers after completing his inpatient rehabilitation program.  Once he is cleared to play again, can Smith return to the field and shine, despite pending legal problems?  Smith should take lessons from teammate Alex Boone who has rebounded nicely from his own past mistakes. Boone, a talented...

NFL supportive of Aldon Smith rehab

Aldon Smith's decision to seek alcohol treatment could work in his favor when the NFL decides whether to suspend him for his off-the-field issues. Speaking to reporters after a forum for European fans, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said that Smith's treatment will be considered when weighing any discipline. "Yes, it will be a factor, for sure," Goodell said....

49ers may release Nnamdi Asomugha to clear space for Eric Wright

The San Francisco 49ers acquired defensive back Eric Wright from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past offseason only to rescind the trade literally hours later after Wright was involved in a drunk driving incident. That eventually lead to the Buccaneers releasing Wright soon after allowing the 49ers to pick up Wright for free. Unfortunately for Wright and the 49ers the defensive back...

If Your Not Kaps’ Tats, Then Get Off Kaps’ Back.

Colin Kaepernick has been more then stellar in his first “full” season while passing for 3000 plus yards, with 18 TD’s and a QB rating hovering around 91. Then you factor another 600 yards on the ground at 5 yards a carry and 5 touchdowns. Of course by season I mean 16 full games, a bye week and oh yeah a playoff run with a super bowl appearance. Since becoming the starter...

San Francisco 49ers: The Niners swagger is back

The San Francisco 49ers have got their swagger back. They have won 4 straight games and have done so in dominant fashion. How dominate? Well the Niners have scored 30 points in 4 straight games for the first time since 1998 when Steve Young was their quarterback. They’ve also outscored opponents 132 to 51. That’s dominance. The Niners have done it by playing smash-mouth football...

Will LaMichael James Find His Role in the 49ers’ Offense?

San Francisco 49ers’ running back LaMichael James was one of the nation’s most explosive collegiate players for the prolific Oregon Ducks from 2009 to 2011.  High expectations surrounded James when the 49ers selected him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft.  But since then, he has received limited playing time partially due to injuries and partially because the...

49ers Linebacker Aldon Smith Might Not Be Suspended by NFL After Voluntarily Entering Rehab Program

Aldon Smith hasn’t been on the football field for the 49ers since Week 3, and there’s no timeline for his return this season. When he is ready to retake the field, though, there shouldn’t be any delay. Smith checked himself into an aclohol rehabilitation facility in late September, just days after his second drunk-driving arrest in two years. The Pro Bowl pass rusher’s decision...

Mario Manningham close to being added to 49ers’ 53-man roster: ‘Mario looks good’

Mario Manningham is close to being added to the San Francisco 49ers’ 53-man roster, says coach Jim Harbaugh. Manningham returned to practice last week and could be activated off the team’s physically unable to perform List soon.  He’s been working with the the first-team offense in England and even caught his first touchdown pass of the season — in a workout before the...

49ers' Donte Whitner to play Sunday despite sprained knee

Safety Donte Whitner says the "small sprain" to his knee won't keep him out of the 49ers' game Sunday. But he also won't be 100 percent. Whitner didn't have to risk re-injuring it on a muddy practice field Friday, at least. The 49ers moved their practice site from The Grove in the Hertfordshire countryside to Allianz Park, an artificial-turf field that...

Gore, like a fine wine, keeps getting better with age

There is no doubt that the San Francisco 49ers are preparing with the future without their star running back, Frank Gore.  It started last season when they incorporated Kendall Hunter and LaMichael James into their potent offense and both had their moments.  In this year’s draft, the 49ers selected Marcus Lattimore from South Carolina but he is not expected to play this season...

49ers-Jaguars injury report

The 5-2 San Francisco 49ers travel to London this week for a ho-hum matchup with the 0-7 Jacksonville Jaguars. Not plenty to take from this game, expect for the fact that they have to travel overseas to play such tomato cans, so we'll just call call it what it is - a scrimmage for San Fran on their way to some R&R with a week 9 bye.
