NFL Injury Report:
San Francisco 49ers’ rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton will miss some time with a fractured foot, according to NFL.com's Dan Hanzus. Luckily, his injury was one of the only blemishes on an otherwise impressive divisional win over the St. Louis Rams on Thursday night. However, it does come as unfortunate news for Bay-Area fans as the 49ers’ are already without receivers’ Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham, who are both sidelined with injuries of their own. Star tight end Vernon Davis has also been hampered by nagging injuries this year which has also effected San Francisco’s offensive production. Patton was a fourth round draft pick this season out of Louisiana Tech University. He was expected to bring an element of speed to the receiving core in San Francisco. The team recently gave up on former first-round draft pick A.J. Jenkins, who was supposed to stretch the field as well. When he failed to produce on the field with consistency, Jenkins was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for fellow receiver Jon Baldwin. While Baldwin is also young and has significant upside—similar to Jenkins—he has also been unable to consistently put safeties on their heels so far in his short career. It seems elite game-speed has truly been a difficult quality for Harbaugh to find ever since his arrival in San Francisco. Patton may eventually turn into a reliable deep-threat in San Francisco. Unfortunately, he will be unable to prove his value from the sideline. The 49ers’ recently announced that they will not place Patton on the season-ending Injured Reserve list do to the fractured foot, however there is still no firm timetable for his return to the field. There’s no doubt that the 49ers need a lot of help at the receiver position. The good news is that they’ll soon get some help.
According to Matt Barrow of the Sacramento Bee, Manningham is expected to be back after week six.
The 49ers need Vernon Davis to stay on the field until Manningham gets back. Without him, the 49ers offense disappears.

There’s a little known rule in the NFL in which a team is allowed to attempt a free kick after calling for a fair catch after a punt or a kickoff. Von Miller and Aldon Smith have not only affected their respective team’s ability to compete for a championship with their immature actions in the past two months, but they also may have slowed down the timeline for when they can cash in on a big money extension.

It’s a good thing that Sports on Earth writer crunched the numbers on Thursday night games being more exciting than people think before last night, but last night’s one-sided affair must have driven the numbers down. The most common media narrative reaction is that the 49ers have righted the ship, but even Rams lover Peter King had to concede on Twitter after the game that the...
